Good morning wings, after yesterdays draw I would like to hope now we are safe, considering the situation we were in earlier in the season massive credit has to go to Rod, Kevin and the players, but also the supporters. A fantastic showing yet again last night making all the noise, showing what Welling United can do when we show togetherness as one club!

As for updates, its been another busy week within the club. The first major announcement is to clarify that the Welling Beer Festival is being held at PVR over a 3 day period this summer. The reason it has not been officially confirmed is due to the fact there has not been a full list of confirmed events etc within the festival, but let me be sure, Park View Road will hold the festival this summer! This is a huge revenue source for the club and will help to achieve that goal of sustainability within all areas of the football club.

Secondly, this Saturday, our home game vs Weymouth is the final home game of the season, it is our chance as fans to show our support to the club. The club has decided to offer the following to the fans for Saturdays game

  • Happy Hour before and after the game

  • £4 per pint of Carling at any time

  • Fresh stock of Lily cider

  • New flavour of Lily cider (passion fruit martini) as requested by the fans

  • Another dartboard + light ring, so bring your darts and lets have a tournament!!

Along with this, the club will be holding an end of season party,  where fans, staff and players are all invited to attend. It will take place in all 3 bars, and we look forward to seeing you there to celebrate the season with us! The end of season party will also include a player of the season award as voted by WUSA.

This is a real chance for the club to raise a substantial amount of money going into the summer, so, as Rod said, if you can leave your cars at home and have a good night!

It would be very much appreciated if over the next few weeks fans could communicate their ideas, suggestions and critiques, so we can move into the new season with these ideas addressed. We all want our football club to succeed, and as I said previously, communication is only getting better. Its not perfect, but its improving, so if we stick at it we will get to where we want to be!

Overall, from a personal note, football is never easy and this season has proved it, however, I do feel the club is in fantastic hands with a set of brilliant individuals on the board - all to be revealed at Saturdays home game. We have made excellent progress recently and with more communication it creates togetherness, and togetherness brings a community back into Park View Road.

This season has been fantastic, lets send it off with a bang!!

Correction, I do apologise, Happy hour is before the game only 12-1

To clarify one point the player of the season vote was open to all fans irrespective of WUSA membership or not. The trophies bar one are purchased by WUSA and the end of season presentation is run by WUSA. The awards are Player of the season, Runner Up, 3rd Place, Managers Player, Players Player and The Eric Brackstone Trophy awarded to a fan for recognition of their contribution throughout the year. In addition the top goal scorer trophy is purchased and awarded personally by two WUSA members.

Real ale in the club bars.
First of all apologies for the lack of cask ale this season.
I've had a chat with both Howard and Lisa and they are keen to start having cask ales back in the bars. Present situation is we have to locate or obtain the equipment needed to be able to put this on again. I'm having a meeting with Lisa at the end of the season to try and find the equipment which should be somewhere in the club and put a plan in place for next season. I've also noted previous comments people like to drink Bitter and not pale ales.
I'm hoping we will see cask ales back in the bars next season.
This Saturday the bars should be stocked up with plenty of Bexley brewery bottles. I will keep you all updated.

Thanks Jake for the updates. Really like the sound of the Welling Beer Festival. Continued communications over the summer would also be much appreciated. Up the WIngs.

That decision is made by those purchasing the award and presenting it. Trophies can always be posted on for a players new club to present as was last season.

Paps 3 goals against Dartford should be worth an award of its own!

Thinking about some money raisers for us, if Dartford go down we will miss out on that highly attended match, so maybe we could have a pre-season friendly against them, as that would be really well attended, maybe even one at our place, one at theirs.

I have started chatting with fans at matches much more this season, and have noticed we have quite a few floating football fans, whose main team is another London side, but come to us when their other team is playing away. I really like veterans matches, as it is so good to see favourite players again, maybe we could have a veterans tournament, of say us, Charlton, West Ham and Palace, or Dartford, as that would attract Welling fans, but also fans from other local teams and may get some fans to our place for the first time.

Kids love to have sweets and soft drinks, maybe we could treat the Erith side of the ground as a more youth focused side, with a snack bar where kids can get things like crisps, canned drinks, sweets, all of which are profitable to sell, and it would be nice to have somewhere where they could regularly meet their friends, as it is a really excited atmosphere there when there are lots of kids watching games. Kids are very driven by results, if we are losing they want to leave the match, so making it a fun sociable experience for them irrespective of the result will help make them want to come back.

It is really great to have this new communication link between the fans and the club, one can already see the improvements it is leading to.
