Excellent, today was not a great match IMO, but it didnt matter, NLS status secured for another season.

well done to the players and management team who took on a very difficult challenge but came through

words cannot express my praise so Ill just now wait for the season ticket application form and look forward to my 36 year supporting WUFC

As Rod said - it's not about performance, it's about points. Yeah OK, a cliché thing to say, but having sat behind his dugout a few times I can quite literally say he and Kevin have fought for every touch, every decision, every passage of play and on a few occasions they have won those points themselves. Its exhausting sitting by them, they must have no voice left and they have mini bickers between them which is hilarious. In short - they've given everything. I can't wait for next season already.

When things come together in football I often think about that A Team line, "I love it when a plan comes together". Rod's management has been a perfect example, of lots of plans coming together for lots of different matches. And add all those successful individual game plans together, and you get our Great Escape.

I had a quick chat with Rod a few weeks ago, to thank him for his transformation of us, and he wasn't having a bit of it, as he took the point of view we hadn't done anything until we were mathematically safe. I liked that attitude, and bet he has given that to the players too to keep them on their toes. So that is why it is so nice to see his post match interview today, where he knows we are safe, so he can enjoy us, instead of still having to worry about us.

It has been a mad season. In our September away game at Tonbridge I chatted with one of our inner coaching circle, who told me our two strikers arent good enough. That was a real eye opener, and made me impressed with Danny (it wasnt him that said it) as he had the pressure of keeping the fans hopes high, when he knew the players werent the right standard. Then we had the obstacle for Rod of any time we got effective attacking players - Kain Adom, Tristan, Sonny, other higher teams snapped them up from us. But it has been a real team performance, goals spread around the team.

To stay up is an achievement, scroll down to the bottom of this page on this link and it shows the average NLS attendances. www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/divisions/3/
On the whole, the highest attendances are for the higher placed clubs, lower attendances are for lower placed clubs, though there is a bit of a cause and effect, as obviously more want to watch successful teams than unsuccessful teams.

But there are exceptions, interesting to see Torquay with good crowds still have financial problems, Eastbourne with high attendances yet doing badly and Aveley doing well despite low attendances.
Weve an average attendance of 700 ish, which is not bad when you consider our low league position for most of the season. If we are successful we will get 1000 fans, picking up floating fans, we are sleeping giants. It shows some financial challenges we deal with, as at present only 5 clubs have lower attendances than us, so pleasing we are competitive and successfully challenging obstacles from most teams having more ticket money coming in than us. Dartford and Havant bigger crowds, but relegated.

A thoroughly well deserved Hooray for us, on and off the pitch, that's the bottom line!

Perhaps he could enthrall us with insight into cricket or the olympics. But of course that would need to be in the off topic forum.

Honestly, I can't believe the lack of appreciation for my groundbreaking posts here. Seriously, who else could have stimulated the discussion on this Welling football club forum that some parts of South London are more suitable to build tube tunnels than other parts?

Am I the only person here to realise this is more important than us being safe from relegation on the same day that Dartford so called football club have been PITIFULLY EMBARRESSINGLY SHAMEFULLY RELEGATED after months of HOPELESS football? And they will play and lose to HASHTAG UNITED next season, while we are challenging for promotion/ consolidating our midtable position/ oh no, not another bloody relegation scrap (Delete as appropriate). Dulwich havent exactly bounced back, I wonder when we will next play Dirtfood? Or are they doomed to relegation after relegation?

Going back to the game today, I have never seen us hit so many over hit passes as we did today, the pressure of battling against relegation has been over us for the past few games, (any guys here who survived the goalless draw against Havant deserve a medal!) but that is now all history, we DID it, we are SAFE, Rod has loads of time to pick HIS team for next summer. Life is GOOD.

The only thing we have to worry about is will the tube tunnels in sarf Lundun flood? Oh, and the concern will Riverstown find another club to support?! And can Dowse get Hemel relegated, imagine getting Dartford AND Hemel relegated in the same season... When Nigel said after the match today we were safe I was puzzled, until I looked at Hemel. Hooray for us, and Dowse, and Rod and Kevin and our guys out there and us fans. Football. Bloody hell.

Unbelievably Rod Stringer, Kevin Watson and players have performed a miracle and we are now safe from relegation. Its been a hard watch for a few weeks but huge credit to the defence for keeping those recent clean sheets. Losing Sonny Fish has dulled our cutting edge going forward but others stepped up to chip in with goals. We can now relax and go to Slough who now cant make the playoffs and play with freedom. The last two and half months have been very enjoyable knowing that the team know how to win or at least hold out for a draw. Thank you Rod,Kevin all the staff and players for keeping Welling Utd in the NLS. Looking forward to see how the squad develops over the summer.

I noticed that Sonny Fish was at the club after the match yesterday, presumably either to meet up with his mates, or, hopefully, to discuss terms of a possible loan deal for next season. (Could be both of those things, of course!). Any news about this on the grapevine?

One of the group I was with spoke to Sonny whilst up in the stand second half. Sonny was injured in training with Gateshead and now misses the rest of the season. He's under contract with Crawley, so will be there pre-season fighting for a first team place. He did say he liked his time at PVR.

Thanks for the update, 50p head. Seems unlikely that well see him here then. I did read that he couldnt manage to get a first team place at Crawley, and hes been out on loan to several clubs in our division this season. I guess the fact that he enjoyed playing here is encouraging, should he be loaned out next season.

Just saw the highlights, the elbow on Paps is naughty. The Weymouth player, although looking at the ball, knew a challenge was coming and lifted his elbow and threw it backwards. He knew what he was doing. Blatant red. Hope Paps recovers as he had a lump on his cheek and was groggy.

Not much to say about this game except Reice was outstanding in goal and we battled for the point we needed to mathematically stay up. Resilience has been the hallmark of our Rod Stringer teams.

Verdict: Staying up
