14th June...we already have 12 players. It's been a very long time since I've known this. Excellent. I think almost this time last year we appointed Danny Bloor so good to compare situations. Hope Rod catches the additional 4.
I read online Erith had started their pre-season training yesterday, I guess we are back too, or soon to be, and it is clearly important to have enough players onboard early on to make our pre-season as effective as possible. I like player retention, as Rod knows the players, so cuts out lots of the gamble of taking new players on. Someone in the club told me Rod's a manager that players want to play for, and the retained list reflects that, as lots are staying.
One can already visualise the outline of our team for next season, and Rod is excellent on the loans market, so happy days.
I note that Gene Kennedy and Adam Roscrow are free agents now. I really liked them both. Gene was very controlled and I thought Adam was good from the bench when we needed to keep hold of a narrow lead.

Good luck to both players but you were watching a different team to me last season...?!
Personally i would like to retain at least three of the players we are talking to but that may well come down to finance.
Clearly we will need a left (wing) back and central midfielder (or two) and some more attacking options for next season in my opinion depending of course on some or all of those four players returning.

Gene Kennedy maybe but Adam Roscrow didnt impress me in anything he did for us last season. Good luck to both in whatever they choose to do.
A mustard signing that. Has played and grown up with some of the best players in football. Obviously hasn't quite gone his way but it would be great to help get him back up to where he should be.
I've switched off from Welling for the summer to concentrate on England and the Euros, but Southgate is so clueless to save my sanity I've run back to Welling where one is guaranteed enjoyable quality football!
With Danny we were bottom 4 for all but 3 of his 28 games in charge of us. That was significantly due to his remarkably inept pre-season approach. He was heavily testing triallists for hs pre-season games, so would play our strongest team in the first half of pre-season games, then make tons of changes for the second half that weakened the team.
The problem he clearly didnt see is that he wasnt giving our team a full 90 minutes together, so we started the season unprepared and not match fit, as players hadnt played a full 90 minutes individually or as a team together, and as a result of the poor fitness and lack of playing time together lost our first 4 league games, and so unsuccessfully trying to play catch up for the rest of his time with us.
Great to see this wont happen with Rod, he's made lots of early signings so plenty of time working with the new squad. I heard the other day Ebbsfleet had only 3 players signed up, so our high signing activity is all the more impressive. Lots of the new signings are making a step up the league on joining us, and not all will work out, but I am sure most will.
Certain people seem to be using this thread to comment on a poster with world famous superior football knowledge rather than give information about player news.
At the moment the squad is an equal balance between new signings and re-signings, and that is great, as the secret of successful teams is continuity and in the past Welling's annual change of manager and total squad rebuild held us back so much.
With Gary Fiore out of the picture I guess Rod has the major say in our signings, if so that is good news as before his arrival it was always a messy puzzle who signed our players, as before Rod we signed players the manager didnt play, so presumably didnt rate, so presumably he hadn't signed. Now with Rod doing signings the players know they have the support of the manager, and that is a big part of our improvement with Mr Stringer. It will be fun to watch the pre-season friendlies in a couple of weeks and see the trialists, as more pieces of the squad jigsaw fall into place. Then we can turn the lights back on. And benefit from the pantomime villain's kindly shared superior football knowledge!!!

Well I think the squad is a balance of old and new players. It appears that Rod has a say in who we sign. Looking forward to the PSFs to see what trialists are on show and having a look at the new players.
Because of the football holiday I'd lost sight of who is resigned from last season, and who are new, but catching up
Re-signed
Chiori Johnson
Jack Munns
Jack Burchell
Reece Grant
TJ Bramble
Teddy Perkins
Javarn Pitterson
Kayden Williams-Lowe
Cameron Andrews
New signings
Martell Taylor-Crossdale
Zain Walker,
Dave Winfield
Anointed Chukwu
Myles Judd
Ben Wells
Elliott Long
So that is 16 signed up, no doubt some triallists will emerge as signings. Rod's loan signings were a great success last season, so loans will also probably emerge as the season goes on. With two weeks to go until our first pre season game we look in a good shape numberwise.
9 guys wanting to stay with us for another season is pleasing, and let's hope after this coming season lots of the new guys will also want another season with us, as stability counts in football, and it is 10 years since we had a manager who stayed with us for more than 2 years, and we have had 16 managers since in the last 10 years which is crazy. But we have finally got it right with Rod. Watching Southgate's postmatch interviews I realise Southgate is the new Danny Bloor!
As I said before, I was a fan of Gene's performances so I'm delighted. We've got a great squad already. Only missing a left back or two, and a 2nd goalie.
