Well that a fun. No doubt the paymasters will be pleased.
Every one of those players and management should be made to apologise to those who bankroll this club.
Not sure how we can be so different from last week? If the players can't be consistent then Rod and Kevin need to get players in who can. I know our budget means we might not be right up there but we need to battle, have tempo, play as a team, have desire, belief etc. All lacking today. Not a great game but good luck to Chatham.
I don't quite get why we played with just one up front when we were at home against a team from a lower division, so in theory at least didnt have to focus on being defensive, when in previous games against better teams we have proved to be effective with 2 up front. As we play a division above Chatham I expected us to play quickly to catch them out by playing quicker football than they are used to playing against, but we were uncharacteristically slow today, so threw away all our fitness and higher league advantages.
Up til now the great thing about us with Rod is our consistency, until Chesham I'd not seen us play a bad game, but this Chatham game was a bad game, and it would be a drag if we started to become inconsistent.
Mark pointing out Gene is our top scorer made me look more closely at Gene's background, and I hadn't realised he is still so comparatively inexperienced, having played just 16 games for other teams before joining us. Lots of other players are also in their early career, so maybe that is part of what has gone on in a few recent poor performances, some young players not yet having the experience of digging in deep to turn a bad team performance into a good one. A mix of positives and negatives, we created lots of clear shooting chances, but kept giving the ball away unnecessarily, so were chasing the game instead of controlling it.
Frustrating performance today but I don't think we were helped by the injury to Wells. Their number 11 was a constant threat and I was baffled when the management team moved Charlie to left (wing) back after the substitution. This also denied us one of our best attacking threats on that side of the pitch and we seemed to lose all shape after that.
I don't disagree with our management team much, but it just looked a bit of a shambles after the substitution.
Another annoyance for me is having Gene on nearly every set piece. Charlie took one corner (I think?) and it was a great delivery onto Dave's head.
We're still a work in progress but we need to find a way to play against so-called lesser teams and not only raise our game when we play teams towards the top of the league.
Never, from Saturday to Saturday, as the phrase chalk and cheese been more evident. Chatham were nothing special but, I will take nothing away from them, they deserved their win, and, indeed, the scoreline could have been even worse. We were truly truly awful. Absolutely nothing all over the park, frightening how bad we were. Injuries notwithstanding, that performance was nowhere near up to snuff. I hope they abandoned the man of the match award after proceedings finished because there was not one. Sorry to sound so negative but I had hopes for a mid table finish with a nice cup run. However......

Absolutely awful. Not a positive word to say, not a single player to emerge with any credit. Absolutely as wide open at the back as we were at Hemel and against Chesham - could easily have been 4 or 5, and barely able to string 3 passes together. A really terrible performance.
Chatham were missing two of their back 4 from last week, both former Wings Sid Nelson and Harvey Statham but we failed to capitalise on their lack of height. Our set pieces were once again appalling.
TJ Bramble plays with his heart on his sleeve wherever he plays but he is not a central attacking midfielder. Equally Chuckwu doesn't seem to have the nous to play up top on his own at the moment but I'd stick with him with a second strike parter. Reece Grant seems a little short of full fitness and Martell needs to man up and get stuck in when he returns.
Yesterday was a bit of a reality check after the high of the Torquay win. We need to keep the faith in Rod and Kevin but they may need to move a few on to bring a couple in. We seem to have a glut of central defensive midfielders.
Hopefully a game can be rearranged for Saturday 28th September. Enfield Town are now available after their defeat yesterday.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh When the Wingssssss
A very disappointing afternoon not least because of the financial implications of being knocked out.
Rather like the Chesham game we weren't at it from minute one and looked lethargic all over the pitch. We got drawn into playing too many long balls when our success against Farnborough and Torquay came by quick passing along the ground. We have two huge centre forwards who hardly won a header between them and the likes of Long and Pegrum are ineffective if you don't play to their strengths.
Credit to Chatham who simply wanted it more on the day. Their right winger and centre forward led us a merry dance all game and, had there been more clinical, they would have run out more comfortable winners.
Yes we have injuries and maybe more yesterday yet we had the same personnel available last weekend. We need to keep the ball better especially in forward areas and/or have someone who can run in behind but, right now, we are doing neither. Surprisingly we looked physically and mentally week yesterday and Boreham Wood (and others) will exploit that if it continues...
Gavin has summed it up nicely and I would only wish to add that when your "forward line"is totally ineffective and your midfield is adding nothing, then set pieces may bear fruit. Ours were appalling, with if I remember correctly, Burchell (once) at the back post was all they offered. The whole effort was unacceptable both form a financial and footballing sense, it is now up to the squad to get their act in order and return to at least competitive ways.

Under Danny, Warren and Peter Taylor it was like Groundhog Day, the same never ever fixed defensive mistakes behind most goals we conceded (opponents getting a soft cross into our box to an unmarked player who had a free shot on goal, which wouldnt have happened if we had a marking player standing between him and the goal). A visiting fan posted a vid about the Chatham game www.youtube.com/watch at 6 minutes 40 seconds in the vid our defending was exactly like the bad old days, letting in a cross, with THREE unmarked opponents in our box.
Looking back, it feels like a game the midfield lost for us, as they didnt drop back to help defend that goal. In the game at the other end of the pitch our midfield was so deep we didnt have enough players in our attacks, and often our one striker was doing knock ons with no one close to get on the end of them, and him pretty much isolated and marked. The inconsistency was this was the same starting 11 players who did so well against Torquay.
Despite his inexperience of only having played 40 competitive games Gene Kennedy has very successfully made a switch from holding midfield to more attacking midfield, with 3 goals in 8 games this season. His goals were scored in strikers positions, so I wonder if he could be better used as a striker, as he was playing in midfield and wasnt in the box much against Chatham. I still think Elliot and Anointed will be successful for us in attack, but so far havent seen much yet to get enthusiastic from Reece Grant or David Carty, but wonder if Gene Kennedy could be this seasons Kain Adom, successfully switching from midfield to attack. From what I've seen so far I'd fancy him more in attack than most of the alternative strikers.
Desperate performance totally lacking in conviction and that includes the Management team - it's as though they didn't give a damn about the FA Cup which is ridiculous with the financial implications.
Once again Welling demonstrate how they often only turn up for bigger games like Torquay rather than also rolling their sleeves up against moderate opposition like Chatham.
Don't think we're anywhere near as good as we think we are and at present worse then Rod's team last year - disappointing to see Adigun and Paps go elsewhere on loan but a financial reality check perhaps.
We need to do much better than Chatham performance on a consistent basis and also away from home if we're to achieve much this season.
Surely with our injury list as it stands, it would be more beneficial to have a week off?
I suspect that will be the way the club will go, with maybe a light training session on Saturday morning. It would also give Rod and Kev the opportunity to go out and look at players who have been recommended to them.

Agreed, this seems wise.
Praying we don't pick up any more injuries on Saturday and can avoid defeat.
Good luck to The Chats - home tie against Chichester or Slough.
The highlights are up, I think we had some chances that didn't make the highlights, but even so they give an accurate view that both sides had chances, but only they put one away. Some of our poor passing from defence didnt make the highlights either. Rod will have wanted a cup run as that would have brought in more money to help improve the squad, his impressive post match interview tackled every single problem with the players head on. This result was down to the players.
There's business talk "what does success look like?" "What does failure look like?" By now from last season and this season we know we are successful when we play a quick passing game, with players available for a forward pass.
And we know we are unsuccessful when we can't string passes together, or don't move into positions ahead of the ball to get a forward pass, so get stuck in a rut of backwards/ sideways passing we fall back on when we dont have the necessary forward movement, which is pointless as it doesnt reach the game objective of putting the opposition under pressure. The problem is in several recent games the players have forgotten what to do to be successful.
I'm a believer in playing ones best players in central positions, so they can be involved as much as possible. Maybe Charlie Pegrum playing centrally would improve us.
