Sad day seeing the club drop into step 3 of non league for the first time in 40 years, but an inevitably for ages. Today summed us up in a nutshell, horrific defensively and a non existent attack to match, but Maidstone made it look like a charity game.

Speaking to Matthew Mein and other WUSA volunteers today it seems like we have a plan for next season, and I hope for all Welling Fans we rarely see days like this happen again.

A truly horrible day, but things can only get better hopefully from here.

Up the Wings

You cant go through 50 players in a season.
Even Katie Price would tell you that

What I saw was pathetic. With possibly 1 or 2 players after next Saturday I never want to see this lot at PVR ever again. I do have faith and with the right manager and a group who gel and play as a team I can see us returning to step 2. It could take 2 seasons with season one getting a team settled and season two keeping those players for the push.

On another note at the end of the game I found out a group of Maidstone fans lived upto their name of Maidscum. Far end fenching broken down and people urinating in the corner. A lot of hard work by a few plus a considerable amount of money was paid to ensure our ground did not fail its grading. I hope Maidstone will do the decent thing and pay for repairs.

Worst defence in the league v best defence in the league. Scoreline tells the same story. Maidstone should make the play offs now although they will be up against it & may face another season in this division.

Although we have previously suffered relegation, it still feels terrible. To those that remember us winning the league, (more than once even), this is what football is all about. The highs and lows. Having said that, how on earth did we beat Worthing 2-0 at home but then play like we did, albeit away, against Salisbury, Enfield & Hampton & Richmond?

It's a funny old game but...

If the Wings... are United

New to the whole forum thing so bear with.

It's been a shocking end to the season. I know the chances of us actually beating Maidstone were slim to none, but it would have been nice to go out with more fight. Bar that, everything that I could complain about has been said, so I'll focus more on the positives.

Making the drop could be a blessing in disguise.
Over the last few seasons, we have been in panic mode, swapping managers, bringing in extortionate amounts of players and desperately trying to avoid relegation.

Coming down into the Isthmian gives us a much needed chance to steady the boat, make repairs and finally bring back atmosphere and identity to the club. If Dartford and Dover can make the bounce, I'm sure we can as well.

Brian Statham as Director of Football will either be a great choice, or cripple our development. I do rate him as a coach, but at this level, and with the disconnect we already seemingly have with management and ownership, I do not think adding someone else to the already collapsing daisy chain is a good idea.

I will admit, I did spend the majority of the second half watching the Maidstone fans across from me tear down the fences as it was far more entertaining watching our stewards try to work out what to do. Hopefully the club lodges a complaint because it's shocking behaviour from them.

This whole director of football thing seems to me like another spur of the moment Howard idea.
Why wait until the manager resigns before announcing this masterstroke.
How the f Howard has made it in business is beyond me.
Allows the trainer to walk, when getting good results in the managers absence.
Admits the manager hasnt been the same person following family bereavement, yet keeps him on and sacks his number two, who looked very confident in Rods absence..
Employs a players dad to take over at the eleventh hour
Now announces we are having a DOF.

Sorry, but this summarises where we are, and unfortunately I dont see a brighter future, as was punted at last weeks meeting.

I so hope I am proven wrong

Have we got a full list of the damage Maidstone 'fans' caused? Would like to see that published to put some pressure on the club to actually make this right. I have an inkling it'll be a corporate apology from such a soulless club if we don't...

With all of the damage done caused by the Maidstone yobs to the fence, I have to ask the question WHERE WERE THE STEWARDS when this was going on ????? Watching the match no doubt. And didn't anyone from the board see what they were doing. These stewards are useless.

To be fair to the stewards, they did try at first to quell the crowd, and even put back up the fence, but when it's 3 v a solid 30-40 people, and they're not getting support from the police presence, it's hard to actually control the crowd. Stewards did what they could, for once.

Why were the only 3 stewards ?? And why wasn't the police called as that was criminal damage to our ground. It was a Kent derby after all, The police should have been there anyway,. When we played at their ground, they had a lot more stewards AND police presence so why didn't we do the same ??

Police were already present at the ground, just watching over us all and not doing too much - and a few more stewards did eventually pile around to try and control the crowd but the damage had already been done and they ended up leaving.
I have no clue where the police went off to, the officer at the Park End just disappeared at around the 65th minute, and it didn't seem as if they went over to the Maidstone fans (?).

I do fully agree that the response was a bit shocking, and we should have more stewards close to where the Maidstone fans were.

The police didn't want to get involved as supposedly them trying to deal with the incident would mean they would have to call the game off which to me is laughable. When asked what was the point of them being there they couldn't come up with an answer. Same old Maidstone bunch causing trouble, they did the last time the game was segregate.

The one good aspect of the segregation was the lessening noise of the idiot banging the drum.

I believe that the police saw a Maidstone supporter throw a pint (hopefully beer) into a stewards face and chose to do nothing. Stewards have limited power and what can they do if the police don't step in when necessary?

The old bill were a joke. I've got video of them doing nothing, when there's loads going on right in front of them. We should have charged them £16 if they're just standing around to watch.

Should have tweeted that their fans made an offensive comment and about 5 vans would have turned up

Relegation has been on the cards for a while - hopefully can bounce back

Not all of it, but there are certain sections of the wall that have caved in and if you go through it, you can see all of the ground with no difficulty.

Quite scary to see that as only 2 years ago the site was mostly secure. Again, it can't be sorted really until the summer or more likely the rebuild.
