The referee and linesmen were shocking. Taking ages over substitutions and letting injured players back in play. At least 5 or 10 minutes were wasted.

Officially, the game was abandoned. Now we will have to wait and see what happens. Should the game have to be replayed, Aveley will only have themselves to blame for their excessive time wasting.

I think we will get to look back fondly on NLS officials. As you know I ground hopped a lot last season and saw games from step 3 to step 9. As you go down the pyramid officials do make some strange decisions. I suppose as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

As far as floodlights go I was close to the one by shop when it went bang. Put the wind up me for sure. The lower part was very hot and I would think needs looking at. Cannot believe some Aveley dickhead actually suggested it was done on purpose. Very childish.

There was also an issue with the PA system. You could hardly hear a thing the farther up the pitch you were towards the park end.

Yeah last night was really evident of things that seem to go wrong at this football club at the worst possible times.

I mean the fuse surely got knocked out when the floodlight went out, but half of the pitch going up to the road end was still somewhat illuminated, which showed it was a temporary outage.

The referee then made an absolute clanger by walking down the tunnel, and then a minute later the lights turn back on, leaving the result completely at the discretion of the league which for the minimal amount of time left is such a poor outcome for Aveley if it is replayed.

It was not just the floodlights as well. Chips ran out in the food vendor at the ground at half time. Yes, it is not the biggest problem in the world, but that loses the club money for goodness sake, and it gets thrown under the carpet as, 'not our problem', 'we will learn'. I wonder how many more times the basics of food vendoring at the club is gonna be messed up before someone takes accountability.

On the performance itself, it was dire lets be honest here. Without Freddie Norman, we concede at least 2 maybe 3 more goals with Aveley's chances, and we were never able to test their keeper even remotely tonight despite a decent turnout by the Welling and Aveley fans.

If the league decides on a replay then Lee Martin has gotten away with one big time, because that performance tonight was so dire and quite frankly boring, that I am not sure whether this project will eventually work or fade like all the other ones in the past few years.

I expect well see a few more ins and outs in the next few weeks, too many players who are no where near at this level like many of us feared when the signings were announced. Could be a long old season

They shaded it at least in the second 45. Ability wise didn't think it was a mismatch but defensively we'd benefit from some experience, start the play, hold the ball when needed, hold a line etc. Other than that would like to see some leaders out there to drive a not wanting to lose attitude and if you are gonna beat us your gonna have to work for it

I'm prepared to give the young lads and the ones stepping up some time. It's people like Paxman and Cundle who need to sort themselves out. Cundle made a ridiculous choice late on by not squaring the ball and Paxman wants a million touches under pressure. We also just need to go and get Chi back. He will bring some much needed composure and quality to that back line.

IMO you can tell Paxman is a good player but its like he is taking the burden upon himself and trying to do to much with the ball, he needs to have a bit more belief in the players around him. Defensively we look weak at the moment no doubt.

I am still very much into the "give them time" camp although I am frustrated that they don't appear to be learning from their mistakes through pre season and into the first two league games.

I think this team will score enough goals with Shagpoke, Evans and Tom Leahy. I like Ufuah and I think Dyer will create chances. I think Paxman is a top player at this level but appears to be trying too hard at times trying to make up for the deficiencies of others..??

Clearly our issues currently are in defence and particularly in wide areas and in front of the centre backs. I'm very old school when it comes to defending. I see Premier League players on 100k a week playing on absolute carpets struggling to play out from the back. How you can expect a Step 7 player on 200 quid a week and, with the greatest respect, not playing on a carpet and expect them to pop the ball around like Barcelona really baffles me.

Good crowd on Tuesday night with plenty of youngsters getting behind the team. We need to stick with them and just try to get a win by any means possible to give the team a little confidence and give the whole club a boost.

Sadly Lee Martin is the latest victim of the "I want to be like Pep" disease that is taking over English football (and for my money making it an absolute borefest too). Everything you say is correct - there are many PL and Championship teams trying this tiki-taka from the back ****e, and frankly not getting to grips with it. If these players were capable of it, they'd already be playing at that level. The efficient teams at this level are direct. How many times after we lost last season did you hear Stringer comment about "that's what they do" in reference to teams making the most out of set plays and going direct - its why these players are at this level!  We are now a level below that and I'll be amazed if the team winning the league play copycat Pep football. We'll be going straight down another division if we persist with this utter nonsense

We were a little more direct, but they were all aimless balls down the channels. In pre season I see some really good hold up play by shakpoke a few times, he's good in the air and good at getting it down to on running players, didn't use it once.

I don't think that you'll find anyone disputing that. If we were away and leading by one goal with thirty seconds to go and their lights went off, we would expect the result to stand.

However, had it not been for the shameful Aveley time wasting, the game would have been over before the lights went off and all of this palaver wouldn't have been necessary. Some thing that needs to be looked at is goalkeepers feigning injury. It is done to waste time, mostly, but I saw it done this week so that the team in question's coach could call his team over for a tactical discussion.
