A really underwhelming game and result for many, but it may potentially be a big point in the season come April. For large parts we were poor let's be honest, little direction in our play, and we had the GK to thank many times, especially the big penalty save early in the game.
I guess we have to see how it plays out, but the facts are that if Wingate beat Potters Bar on Tuesday, then we are 8 points off safety come Wednesday accounting for GD, and we have Chatham on the Saturday, a really good side who have punched above their weight massively in recent years.
It is alarming how fast the games are running out now as well. Any side bottom of the league at this time of the season has no hiding place, it is a damning reflection of how we have performed as a collective for 75% now.
I still think we have a chance of staying up, but every week that passes that logic is becoming less and less convincing. I guess we can take comfort with the fact we play Potters Bar twice, Wingate, Cray Valley, Carshalton, but they could all beat us and that is not me exaggerating.
Potters Bar beat Dartford, and we had some people writing them off. They would fancy turning us over if they can do an upset like that for sure.

Come on you Wings
I am no fan like many of you, but I've been trying to get to home and away games as the club needs support. That said, this is desperate. And it is rather clear that there is a greater likelihood of relegation now than not.
Lower league football suffers massively from a lack of money. PVR is, of course, only going to 'depreciate' further, whether its stands, standing, pitch or any other facilities. It was bad in NLS, it's hardly going to be any better in Isthmian South East. How is the club and its ownership going to get any sort of fundamental change so that people want to go, at such a low level? It is not inconceivable that the club goes down again because there's a shock to the finances that gets worse.
Every last bit of the gameday experience has to change, the ticket prices will have to come down, families need to be welcomed, and everything from the toilets to the advertising hoardings need a good tidy up. Keeping things looking shabby is no good.
Anyway, yeah, what are the away days next season then? Deal, Sevenoaks, Crowborough and Whitstable? I suppose the away days are getting closer.
Being bottom of the league currently doesnt bother me, as we are still within shooting distance of getting out of trouble. What worries me, is the fact there is nothing I saw yesterday that we would get enough wins to stay up. I hope Im wrong.

If we were to go down to Step 4, I think it is about how we adapt to the shock of it, and how fast. If I am right, the FA Funding decreases further probably somewhere below £100,000 pounds as that level is basically all amateur.
One thing that most fans desperately want us to do is keep a stable team for next season as well, regardless of the outcome of this season. The merry go round of players every season has not only fuelled instability on the pitch, but it has also led to an identity crisis off of it. For their flaws at times, Dartford keep a core group of players around for a while, Box, Dsane etc etc. It is something Dartford fans can at least relate to. At Welling, because we have so many players coming in, there is nothing to attach yourself with.
And it is true as well the gate entry fees reduce further as well when you go down to Step 4. From what Chris Wallis told me, it is probably going to be £12, which is standard for the level. And I have seen a game at Step 4 this season, VCD vs Hassocks, and the turnout for me was a grim foreshadowing of how low the level truly is. There were around 100 VCD fans at home, and about 7 Hassocks fans that turned up (granted long trip but still). I mean in recent history we have played teams such as Luton, Grimsby, Torquay for crying out loud. That level would be a far far cry from where we once used to be.
But I will add this, if we do eventually end up in Step 4 this season, nobody can say it hasn't been coming. Why the Board and the Management think turning over such a large amount of players every season will work in ensuring success continues to baffle me. We were hanging by a thread for years in the NLS and finally got what we deserved last season. And this season we have resorted back to the same old failed methods, management, and guess what, we are struggling again!
But regardless I will end this post by adding I will always back this club. Even if we go down next season, went to the County Leagues, I would still follow the club. That is what true loyalty is about, and I know many other fans will stick by the team through thick and thin.
On the game itself definitely a point gained as, if it wasn't for a good performance by our keeper and a bad performance from their strikers, we would have lost that game comfortably. There's clearly no lack of effort or desire in the team but there is a distinct lack of quality going forwards as no goals in the last three games would suggest.
What really worried me was the lack of intent especially in the second half. I had to ask the people around me if I had missed us scoring as it felt like we were hanging on to a narrow lead or playing for a replay against a higher ranked side in the FA Cup...?! Another plethora of new players in the last couple of weeks and how long will it take them to gel and will it be too late before that happens...?? We have used almost 30 players under the current regime and we're nowhere near knowing what our best starting XI is...
One last thing....can we please please please start kicking towards the road end in the second half. I know we don't always win the toss but traditionally we have always kicked that way in the second half of matches. Kicking downhill on a tough pitch when players are getting tired has to be easier and, with the covered end behind the goal, we may actually generate some sort of atmosphere to help the players...??
