Following several weeks of discussions between Ken and Ade I can now confirm that the Under 18’s will be included in this seasons 1st team pre season training programme which commences on 3 July and will be training with the first team during the season. Further discussions are taking place with the coaching team this week.
Ade will be providing Ken and the lads with excellent support in their campaign in the Kent Youth Under 18 North Division League. I am sure they will repay him by taking full advantage of the opportunity provided and as they did this year put in 100% effort wearing the Welling shirt and representing the Club with pride.
Not having a reserve side it also means that Ade will be able to keep track of how the lads are doing and maybe we will see one or two of them break into the first team squad over the next couple of years.
Ken, who is naturally delighted with what has been arranged and the opportunity it will give to the lads, said “Ade has been very positive and supportive of the side since the discussions began.”

Absolutely tremendous, well done to Ade on this and its reward for a great season for the under 16s. I am sure the lads will buckle down and we will see some of them break through.
What an incentive for the lads that the first team manager is showing that sort of interest and has invited them to train with the first team.
I hope it is the basis for a conveyor belt with the best of the bexley league squads promoted to the kent league team and then on to the first team/reserves squad.
The Under 18s managed by Ken are a vital cog in the wheel of Welling United. I hope any politics between the Kent League 18s and the former Kingsmoor sides dont stop what could be a superb set up for years to come.
Good Luck all.

With the setup of Welling United Youth coming at a time when Ken has been running a successful Kent League side for a couple of years it would be hard to imagine a scenario where there weren't any areas for discussion. One of these has to be the point you previously highlighted about there being a Bexley League side and a Kent League side at Under 18 and has thought been given to what you do with a player of Kent League standard responding to the advert placed by Martin and any trialist Ken has who is not up to the Kent League standard. I would hope that there would be some cross pollenation. The bottom line surely is that all of the sides represent Welling United and have the same ultimate goal.

Great news and another step in the right direction for the whole club. I would imagine this a great source of motivation to some of our younger players.
Well done to Ken and his squad. Well deserved.....
