ADRIAN Pennock's Welling United squad was given a massive shot in the arm this week after midfielders Matt Bodkin and Steve Perkins agreed one-year contracts at Park View Road, writes Alex Leach.
Both players were instrumental in the Wings' promotion push last season and Pennock (right) is looking from more of the same from the talented duo.
"I'm very pleased to have both of them on board for next season," Pennock said. "It's a shame for Matt Bodkin that it did not work out at Gillingham, where he was recently on a two-week trial. But we'd already agreed that if it did not work out, he'd sign for us.
"He had a good season for us last year. He's young, he's a match-winner and on his day, nobody can stop him."
"Steve Perkins is versatile and he's got a lot of experience. When he got injured in the middle of the season last year, his form did dip but before that, he was our best player."
The Wings boss also hopes to sign a striker he's been tracking "for a long time" ahead of this Saturday's home game against Conference side Grays Athletic.
This is EXACTLY the type of signing we should make, league experienced and unexposed. Could be anything and we would be unlucky if he wasnt upto trhis standard. A tremendous signing Akwasi Edusei. I am trusting Ade here, in that he knows the lad and rates him, it could be a coup.
Now all we need is a midfielder or two and some defensive cover and we should be ok.
I only hope that keds doesnt go now and the new lad was a replacement and not an addition.
