Does the WIE Report delight in picking players out to slaughter?
Jamie and Che are lambasted and ridiculed in the Clevedon report. Its all very well having a dig and saying you would make them stand in the bar in their kit after the game. How about printing the report (sic) out and presenting it to the players saying you wrote it?
I dare say there will be some more sarcastic piss taking at the players expense after the defeat at Havant?
I cant see the club being to happy at the latest report, critiscing Manager, Keeper and Striker, aswell as the Full backs.
Report on the game, dont bother with the ridiculing of the players and all this wie feel/saw/think shi.te
Reports like that do nothing for Welling United F.C or the morale of the players.
A difficult one to call in my book vfts. I personally agree with you and though it may not be my style it reflects what quite a substantial proportion of Welling's hard core support demonstrate week in and week out - the sing when your winning and silence only broken by the odd attack on a player when things are going badly. As Stafford posted last week "Twas ever thus I am afraid.....I'd agree we are probably quicker to get at the team than many sets of supporters."
I personally believe that you need to get behind your team more in times of trouble but even the most hardened fan is entitled to be critical though in my view this should be confined to post match and forgotten about when the next match comes along. WIE and whoever, including myself and yourself, as ticket purchasing fans have the right to criticise a poor performance in just the same way as we would complain about a flat pint, but have to be aware that those affected, while finding this an irritation/temporarily demoralising, know that the view which carries weight is that of the manager in the case of players and the Board in the case of managers. I have to accept that my view is probably a bit old fashioned in this day and age which focuses on success (but hasn't a clue as to how to handle failure or poor performance) but I happen to think that it is more constructive and a value worth maintaining.
WIE is a fanzine and they are publishing the view of a fan, which I would defend their right to do to the hilt (even when it is OTT), but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it as indeed you do not. I personally found the criticism of Che OTT but he and the other players are being paid and their performances are in the public domain and open to comment. I found the attempted topical joke amusing in that it was as inaccurate as Che's (and others) attempts on goal since if he hadn't been in the right place he wouldn't have missed the goalscoring opportunities!!!!

To be fair, i think Russ is known by most of the players and certainly by the club and probably by Adie/Phil so i dont think you can hammer him on that score. Anyone who hasnt seen it then go to www.winningisnteverything.net You can access the clevedon report from the fixtures/results link along with previous ones.

FFS! The Havant report is now up , congrats for being up so fast BUT, Now Ellis and Bod get the treatment and in WIE's view lol are not good enough against the better teams?
Ellis Green has done very well coming from a few leagues down and is young and learning, Get behind him! Matt is a confidence player and you have seen him destroy teams, again get behind him.
As for calling for new players, you better give Adrian the money in the WSU account as he will be getting none off of Graham & Barrie.
Im just trying to be clear here... Only people like Russ/WIE/WSU can criticise the club?

Everybody has different views and are entitled to them as we pay our money to watch the games. I shelled out nearly 40 quid on Saturday for a display that was equally as bad as the previous week and if people are good we say it as Perks was Saturday but if people are poor which a lot were we also can say it.
JGFC i agree we need to believe it was two bad games and we can move on i think we need a RB ASAP!
We have TWO right backs. Mark Goodfellow and Leon. I think this new kid from portugal can play left back or midfield.
I think we just need to get over feeling sorry for ourselves and go kick some butt on the pitch.
last 2 games you can say, ok fair enough but it needs to stop, show everyone its just a bad week or so ad all the good results previous are the real welling.
Would rather individual players arent ripped to bits to be honest. They need encouragement, We are a young team doing well. get behind them dont humiliate them in match reports they all read.

JgFc, To clarify the whoever did not go with WIE. Obviously those who have paid (particularly when they have had to travel to a place like Havant or Dorchester) and seen a match have every right to criticise IF they are presented with Sunday park football. My personal views do not preclude those who were not at the matches but have gleaned information from others who were, and match reports, contributing to discussions or indeed starting threads though I accept that this is not a universally accepted stance.
As far as highly critical comments about individual players go I hold the view that whilst I personally do not subscribe to it on the basis that I don't see it as being particularly constructive I would defend people's right to express their opinion in their own way subject to the usual matters such as the law, racist comments, etc. As with any other practice this is not written in tablets of stone and I believe that there are situations when individual criticism is appropriate such as a player consistently underperforming, showing a lack of commitment, or having a bad attitude but these are the exceptions rather than the general rule.
In the case of the Clevedon match it was a bad performance as a team and I personally think that WIE's selecting individuals for harsh words was inappropriate but I say again I defend their right to express their opinion in their own way. People will either agree or disagree with how they handled it and choose to support, pass a contrary opinion or ignore it just as they will this posting.
Spud Speaking only of the Clevedon report I disagree and think that perhaps if you were Che you might feel differently.

I realise that unlike a plumber doing his job you have a winner and a loser in a football match and as such the criticsm shouldn't actually be aimed at whether you win or lose, more how you came about the result.
In the context of the plumber, if you choose Fred in a Shed rather than a top national brand you may expect that the skill level you are getting may not be as high but the price wont be either (Welling, Chelsea say). What you probably wont find as easy to accept is if Fred in a Shed isn't making the best of the ability he has got to do your plumbing right. And rightly you'd have a word. I don't see why the same shouldn't apply to football.
I don't think overall we are unfair on our players and for that you only have to look a our informal 'legends' list. You have Bartley, Abbott, Robbins, Horton, Glover and the like who could all play bloody well for the level we were at and then you have the likes of Copes (sorry Paul), John Farley etc (and to an extent Tony Reynolds who was some way between the two) who may not have been at the skill level of the division we were in but made up for it by attitude and putting the effort in. I don't think that that suggests an unbalanced view among the general support.
Overall, if you perform to your ability more often than not you WILL be appreciated and remembered by the support of this club.
