Bods looks likely to be signing for Grays, who made a 7 day approach last Saturday, by the end of the week. Bods is on non contract terms and can move on a free. Ade has already made moves to bring in a replacement.

Other team news Keith Rowland has been released but will stay with Welling as a scout.

Ben Lewis, Mark Goodfellow, Daisy and Carthy are all expected to be fit for Saturday.

I will be very sorry to see Bods go. What a player he`s been for us this year. He tries his heart out every game. A great favourite with all the supporters. Good luck to him.

Gutted if he goes, hes really done well at Welling. Hope he stays and waits for a league team or a league team comes in late for him.

Cant begrudge him going as he has to earn a living, Non Contract and cant be on millions at PVR. If Bod goes i'd like to wish him all the best and hope that if things never worked out he would approach the club to come back.

Im sure Adie will have someone lined up if Bods decides to leave us. Personally i dont see Grays as a good move and would think if Adie is here for another couple of years we will be up there with them.

Im sure Bods wont go without a lot of thought. Remember Adie has brought in Stevie Harper who should be a really good signing for us.

Gl Bods if you go (Hope you dont) and Gl Stevie hope you stay for years and score sackloads.

New Chant for Stevie (to the tune of whats that coming over the hill etc)

Whos that scoring an-other goal... its Stevie Harper

Whos that scoring an-other goal... its Stevie Harper

Though it looks likely that Bods will sign for Grays if my understanding is right they can't talk to him until Saturday and then have until 29th to sign him. We know that Bods wants a full time footballing contract but that will not be his only consideration so a lot will depend on what Grays put on the table. Maybe a touch of the eternal optimist but it isn't a done deal yet.

Bit Niave Bruno, You dont think hes been tapped up then? I would imagine if he was going its all been sorted between Bods and Grays already.

Also i would think if Bods goes then one will come straight in. We are second in the League and should be able to attract some decent players. As long as Boothy dont come back i will be happy. I'll trust Adie to do the right thing. He wont take being messed around and hes stood by Bods and gave him a lifeline when Gills offloaded him. Adie treats the players well if they play ball with him. It only benefits us as a club when trying to sign new players.

I cant have a bad word to say about bods really and wish him well, i firmly believe all this 7 day approach is just dotting the i's and crossing the t's and a lot of tapping up goes on. In that respect Bod has let Adie down a bit.

Ive heard whispers from a mate in the media that its not only Grays after Bods so if he hangs on and plays well he could get straight in the league ;)

Selectively naive I can run with JgFc. We all know that 'tapping up' goes on, frequently by third parties to keep the Club's hands clean. It may have taken place in this case but as the eternal optimist perhaps Grays will have been more cautious with all the fuss around transfers at the moment.

I'm not sure that, albeit that they are in the League above, going to a club which is currently struggling and making wholesale changes from a currently successful side is the best move, particularly so close to the opening of the transfer window.

I think Im right in saying that Bods didnt have a contract. So he was always free to speak to other parties and other parties are free to speak to him. Tapping up doesnt apply in this case does it?

It certainly does apply. Below is extract from FA Rules

"Players Without Written Contracts

2. (a) Regulations Concerning Approaches
Players who are not under written contract to a Club may be registered with a number of Clubs at any time, subject to the following provisions and those of the Competitions in which they play:

(i) Competitions sanctioned by The Association under Regulation 3 of the “Regulations for the Sanction and Control of Competitions” may make their own regulations for the approach of Players between Clubs of the Competition.
(ii) During the current season* any Club wishing to approach a Player known to be registered with or having played for any other Club must give to the Secretary of each such Club seven days’ formal written notice of the intention to approach the Player."
