Anyone up for a 5-a-side game?

Hi,

I was wondering if any Wings fans fancied taking on the Erith & Belvedere fans 5-a-side team at Goals, Bexleyheath?

We've played one game against Thamesmead and beat them 8-3, so expect a sterner test than when our first teams played each other in the London Cup last season!

(www.disa.org.uk/disa.html) - click on '5-a-side'

If you're up for it, send me an email at bazza_1991@hotmail.co.uk

Cheers

Tom

There's no need to be such an ignorant idiot.

No wonder Welling's fans have a reputation for thinking that their better than they really are.

How pathetic.

At least we know how good we actually are, you seem to forget that you're only in the Conference South and not the Premiership.

In case you hadn't noticed, we've formed a supporters club and are trying to do something positive about our club and improve it's reputation, which is more than can be said about you jgfc, all that you have demonstrated is what an idiot you are.

We have an average attendance of 116 and if you bothered to follow the link on my previous post, you would find FIVE players.

Are there any Wings fans that aren't arrogant prats?

Our players definitely are good enough to win the Kent League, poor management and lack of funding is the reason why not.

We'll certainly go up in the next few seasons though.

A bit oversensitive in my view Tom.  JgFc is obviously not an E&B supporter and though having a pop at a team in difficulties is not the warmest of sentiments it is not that unusual - heck we've even experienced fans laying into our own players with a vengeance this season (as have other clubs).

I have only been to one Kent League fixture this season but to be honest my view was that the standard was lower than I have ever experienced in that League and I certainly won't be handing over pound notes for another match this season.  Granted it was only one match but it did involve a top side and another which started the season well but I see much better matches in the U18 KYL.

I'm not quite sure what you were saying about the E&B side - you say that you have good enough players to win the League but poor management was an issue which I can understand but also that lack of funding is an issue.  If you have good enough players what is the funding issue?

Sorry Bruno, I'm just tired off people having a pop at the Deres!

There is a funding issue indeed, the wage bill was cut considerably having missed out on promotion on the last day of last season (1-1 draw with Beckenham denied them the championship and us promotion - but what a game. Had you seen that then you definitely would have came to a few more KL games). Wayne Brown brought in some quality players - we beat Margate's 1st team 2-0 easily in a pre season game, but we couldn't afford to sign the trialists, so we ended up with half a championship winning team! Some injuries and suspensions and failing to take chances have been our downfall. Things are starting to come together now, but it's almost certainly too late.

I agree the standard of Kent League football is dropping, but worse players doesn't necessarily mean less entertaining football. I saw Thamesmead beat Herne Bay 4-3 a couple of weeks ago, Thamesmead's defence was shocking although they are excellent up front.

There are only a handful of decent sides left as the rest have been promoted. Don't be surprised if the Kent League gets even worse as the better sides get out. Whitstable, Thamesmead (if they improve their ground), VCD (if they improve their ground) and E&B are very likely to be playing at a higher level in the next few years along with a couple of other sides.

No need for apologies Tom we are all passionate about the side we happen to support and can on ocassion take things perhaps a bit too personally and react accordingly.

Thamesmead was one of the sides which I saw, it was perhaps an off day and it was before the Cable brothers were reunited but I'm afraid I can't be tempted back for a while at least.

Funding is an issue for most non league clubs, and indeed many League Clubs, and I'm sure gets more frustrating the further down the pyramid that you happen to be.  Clubs have always looked to lower leagues for players but as they face ever tightening budgets I suspect that stripping of players with the necessary commitment and a raw talent which can be developed from lower leagues clubs has intensified.  It is I'm afraid very much a dog eat dog world.
