Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated….. As fan of AFC Wimbledon I am asking the Sports Minister RH Mr Richard Caborn to intervene with the Football Association after AFC Wimbledon were "unfairly" docked 18 points and thrown out of the FA Trophy following a technical administrative error. I would be grateful if you could sign the petition here http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/wimbledon/ Once you have signed the petition could you please check your mailbox and reply to the mail that has been sent by the petitions.pm.gov.uk website to ensure that your signature is registered. If you wish to help further then you could also e-mail your MP to ask him/her to sign an Early Day Motion which has been raised by the local Wimbledon MP and has currently been signed by 44 other MPs.   To read the Early Day Motion, go here:  http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMID=32720&SESSION=885 To write to your MP, go here:  http://www.writetothem.com/ Below is a suggested text if you do wish to write to your MP:Title: EDM 992 Dear Mr. x,            I am writing to you as one of your constituents to ask you to sign EDM 992 and intercede with the FA on behalf of AFC Wimbledon.             The FA and Ryman League have recently imposed extraordinarily harsh penalties (£12,000 fine, expulsion from the FA Trophy and an 18 point deduction) on AFC Wimbledon for an innocuous administrative oversight.  No unfair advantage was either sought or gained when they failed to realise that an International Clearance Certificate (ICC) was needed when they recently signed an English player from a club playing in the English League and participating in the English FA Cup.  The FA and League considered that the lack of an ICC meant the player was ‘ineligible’.             The club in question was Cardiff City and, despite their full participation in English football, their players are registered with the Welsh FA.  When a player moves from the jurisdiction of one country’s FA to another, an ICC is needed to confirm that he has no outstanding bookings or suspension.             The player concerned is a very clean footballer so not only did he have no outstanding bookings or suspension but the lack of the required ICC only came to light when he received his first booking, by which time he had already played in 3 cup games and 11 league games during which AFC Wimbledon had won 18 points.  Frustratingly, when made aware of the need to get an ICC, this took a total of one hour and 3 e-mails.             The club fully accept that a minor administrative error was made but I hope you can recognise the enormity of the injustice and the complete lack of any proportionality between ‘crime’ and punishment and consequently feel able to add your signature to EDM 992.                           Yours faithfully

Why is it unfair? AFC Dons broke the rules, the consequences are clear. As I believe they employ staff to run thier affairs there is no excuse. They have in effect cheated by playing some-one who shouldn't have been on the field and they should take their punishment. I feel sorry for the sides that lost points to AFC Wimbeldon whilst they cheated, maybe not deliberatly, but certainly due to their incompetence. These victims haven't got the points back as far as I am aware.

The fans anger should be directed at their own officials who made the mistake which will, quite likely, cost them promotion.

Not like there isn't a precedent.

After the Altincham and Weymouth incidents last year everyone should have been extra vigilant.

If you are reprieved, wouldn't the side that loses out on the promotion/play off place have a fair gripe that they could have played ineligible players and improved their results

I wouldn't have been happy if we'd done what you did but those are the rules so tough luck.

Far too severe.

I think the severity of the sentence is far too much. A small fine and maybe a few points knocked off would have been fairer.

The FA should have twigged it earlier when his registration went through so they should take part of the blame. Still, we know what a bunch of incompetent idiots they are at times.

Yet again we come around to is this a football only competition?

If it is we'll all play who we like, pay them how we like, whether they be owned by Liverpool or Diego Dodgy, play it in the stadia of the facilities of your choice and do everything by results.

Otherwise it is a football-BASED competition and you observe ALL the rules and punishments/restrictions for infringements of those regulations.

I just want to know for certain because I get the feeling at the moment we treat it as the latter and if it is the former I reckon we are capable of chicanery of the highest order to enable us to compete with the best of them.

And before anyone quotes 'it was an innocent mistake!', what muppet is going to stand up and say they deliberately did it if they did? And as no one other than the original person involved knows either way there is only one way you can frame the rule.

Suppose it would be too much to ask for a player to understand that he was playing in a different country (not difficult - they have their own national team!) and point it out when he signed?

RANT SUSPENDED!
