Former Barnet midfielder Andy Hessenthaler has been appointed manager of Ryman First Division South side Dover Athletic. The 41-year-old has has only just finished playing professionally for the Bees after being released this month. The former Gillingham manager was keen to return to a coaching role but had not ruled out playing on. Dover chairman Jim Parmenter told his club's website: "Getting Andy to manage our side is something of a coup."
Smacks of desperation to me and a monumental gamble, must be on big money, will expect a decent budget and you would question his contacts as he has been out fo the area and standard of football for a long time.
For a club that nearly went under to take a gamble like this is very foolhardy imo.
Bromley, Dover, Margate and Ashford might be sailing close to the wind.
