I know we were all delighted when we got some news for the local rag about what Neil is up to and we respected what he is doing, but who actually do we have signed up apart from Steve Harper. It is only 4 weeks until we play Charlton and I think we still only have one player on contract.
I can apprecaite he wants to play some trials and look at players, but there must be people around who can tell them that Perks, Mooro, Leon are good enough and should be signed, especially if they want to sign. Danger is that as the new season becomes closer they will be tempted away by the certainty of a contract elsewhere rather then risking going though trials and not being picked and being without a club.
Club are still very quiet - nothing on website since 1.6.07
Maybe I am being over anxious but seems to me by mid-June we should be further on than this.
Not sure that Harper is signed - the local rag included him in the list of players who had been offered contracts though this could of course have been an extension to contract.
We do have 2 players definitely signed Neil Smith and Stuart Nethercott - who would be in the dugout if they both played however could be an issue.
Having zipped around the Blue Square South side's websites there is a real mix of team news ranging from we have 14 players to silence. The significant factor as far as Welling is concerned is that many if not all had a hard core of players on their retained list. I very much doubt that any other side has only its manager and coach as its only contracted players.
If we don't see something positive in the way of signings in the next week then even the most ardent of supporters must surely be having buttock trembling moments and fearing that we will sign anybody just to be able to name 16 players.
