OK if that's the case then that's not too bad - but are league games or highlights going to be shown on Setanta or is it just the Setanta Shield that will be shown?
I don't know about Setanta's coverage but picking up on your comment about Saturday games at 3:00PM......................
I know its not going to happen because of the revenue that TV coverage brings in but Id prefer all league games and FA Cup games apart from the odd Bank Holiday game to be played on a Saturday at 3:00PM.
Minor cup games and European games can be played mid-week.
Id also like to see only 1 team from each country plus the holders allowed into the European Cup. It should also be a straight knockout with no seeding; all in the hat together. If the big European teams want to go off and form their own super league then let them bugger off and do it. Let it be known though that if they opt out of their domestic league then decide to get back in, it would mean starting back at the very bottom of the pyramid.
The Champions League only benefits the big clubs. The rich get richer etc. Its also quite boring until you get to the knockout stages.
Id allow twice as many teams in the EUFA cup but make it straight knockout like it used to be. That would give some of the smaller clubs a slice of the cake.
I agree with you, but none of this is likely to happen because money talks. Under the present arrangements, it is most unlikely that any team outside England, Italy or Spain (and maybe Germany) is going to win the Champions League because that's where all the money is. They therefore have the biggest and strongest squads, which gets them through the group stages. I would also do away with two-legged matches. You are always more likely to get an upset in a one-off game. I'd love to see Sparta Prague win it, but now I'm dreaming!...
