When Welling run out on to the pitch, is it just me who hates that music? It also gets me twice when I log on to wellingunited.com to watch a few replays!
I was wondering whether we could put something to the board with our more appropriate suggestions - something that signifies a bit of history maybe?
Well, to get us started, in the year we were formed, these were the No. 1's:
1963
"Crystals, The" Da Doo Ron Ron
"Chiffons, The" He's So Fine
Kingsmen, The" Louie Louie
"Ronettes, The" Be My Baby
"Brown, James" Prisoner of Love
"Drifters, The" On Broadway
"Trashmen, The" Surfin' Bird
Martha And The Vandellas Heat Wave
"Beach Boys, The" Shut Down/Surfin' U.S.A
"Chiffons, The" One Fine Day
"Crystals, The" Then He Kissed Me
"Love, Darlene" (Today I Met) The Boy I'm Gonna Marry
"Wonder, Stevie" Fingertips-Pt. 2
Dion Donna the Prima Donna
"Ronettes, The" "Baby, I Love You"
"Jaynettes, The" "Sally, Go 'Round the Roses"
Major Lance The Monkey Time
"Cooke, Sam" Another Saturday Night
"Shirelles, The" Foolish Little Girl
"Gaye, Marvin" Can I Get a Witness
"Wilson, Jackie" Baby Work Out
"Bradley, Jan" Mama Didn't Lie
"Chantays, The" Pipeline
"Thomas, Rufus" Walking the Dog
"Beach Boys, The" Be True to Your School/In My Room
Bobb B. Soxx And The Blue Jeans Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts
"Lewis, Barbara" Hello Stranger
"Gore, Lesley" You Don't Own Me
"Troy, Doris" Just One Look
"March, Little Peggy" I Will Follow Him
"Gaye, Marvin" Hitch Hike
Jan And Dean Surf City
"Tams, The" What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am)
"Cookies, The" Don't Say Nothin' Bad (About My Baby)
Technical hitch - they weren't No 1, I relied too much on google - here they are officially, although it looks like another team in red has stolen the best one!
How about something from supergroup 'Wings' - Mull of Kintyre or Matchstok Men for example. It might be worth considering something a bit more modern to appeal to 'the kids', although we should draw the line at rap I feel.
Thanks for that bit of nostalgia. Looking through the first list Ive got more than half of them. I think you may find this list is America Billboard number 1s. I dont have any from the second list although I do have the original version of Do you love me by the Contours. I cant stand that Brian Poole version. My suggestion from 1963 would be either "Papa Om Mow Mow" by the Rivingtons or "Twist and Shout" by the Isley Brothers.
The song is by Rod Stewart ............Reason to believe OK, maybe not, but lets get behind the team for good or bad and give Neil the chance to show what he can do. I have only been a fan for the past year and I haven't been to all the games that I would hope to do and do not fully understand the ins and outs of the set up as much as Bruno, JgFc etc ( Bruno, JgFc please enlighten me ).........oh and one last point............ WE NEED A STRIKER!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for these! I have no idea what the song is that we run out to, all I know is that it gives me goosebumps all for the wrong reasons!
I will put some of these suggestions forward, but I think it should be something that we can interact with i.e. "Crazy Horses - WAAAH WWAAHH" - Now that would be funny!
Please please, not Crazy Horses. I can't get rid of that image of them dancing around in those stupid outfits. I'd sooner have The Birdie Song than that. EvenCrap Rap music would be better.
How about Let's Go by The Routers. 1962 I know but it didn't chart here until 1963 but it started the whole synchronised hand clapping thing.
Ok then, no rap, no Crazy Horses, maybe sync hand clapping or ain't no stopping us now I'll see what response I'll get - I'm sure they have nother better to do ha ha!
I seem to remember that 10 years ago we used to run out to the "March of the Montegues" from Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet. Never understood why. However it is a fantastic piece of music.
Another option from the classical world is the "Fortuna Dominatrix Mundi" (Fortune, mistress of the world) section of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.
Although this is probably the most stiring piece of music ever written, viewers of a certain age will remember it from the "old spice" adverts, Orff has many unpleasant associations with the Third Reich, not least that he was probably a member of the party.
I supose it depends on if you believe that music itself is inherently evil, or the composer is to blame.
Welling United Song? My goodness - I'm glad I posted this out to people now. If anyone knows more - please reply. Also it has been interesting to hear what we previously ran out to.
