The constant sniping on this forum drove me away once and I'm sure I am not the only one. Healthy debate is one thing but the regular personal attacks which have been a feature of the last few years are another. Welling is a reasonably big club at this level and we should be able to have a forum where we can all talk about Welling - good, bad or indifferent. If Mark wants to draw a line under what has gone on in the past then it's a pity that the forum cannot move on and move forward. More abuse, whatever has gone on in the past, is going to just further discredit all those involved. I fundamentally disagree with most of the views you express on how Welling should be run but as things stand there is no real possibility with a sensible and informed debate.

Well said Andrew, this infighting is getting quite boring and enough to drive anyone away!

The drawing of a line in the sand is the phrase I used when giving my interpretation of what Mark meant when contacting JgFc. It has to be said, though Andrew has chosen not to, that JgFc has come onto the forum and publicly said he will not initiate a slanging match with Mark and that much of the abuse referred to has been from anonymous posters, an issue which I will be addressing though since I cannot monitor the forum 24/7 it is not that easy.

The issues raised by JgFc are substantially those which are generated by his opinions which he has invited Marks comments upon having been told he is wrong. In my opinion the lack of response has been recognised by several of those who post on the forum and who presumably wish to read the views of both parties (who have followed Welling for many a year) and having considered what is said, form their view and potentially feel more informed and able to contribute to the debate.

Oh how easy it is to take potshots at the club fom a distance. I really don't know why some people bother. I mean, if you don't go to the games and think the personnel who run the club are a bunch of incompetent idiots with no ambition, what do actually get out of calling yourself a supporter?

You could denigrate the most successful clubs in the world - look at the 2000 or so who disagreed with the Glazer takeover of Man United.  But at least they had the balls and got off their arses and did something about it.
anyway, back to Welling....
Yes, we're a non-league club, run by amateurs (no, I don't mean that condescendingly - most full time clubs are chaired by successful International businessmen - but that doesn't always stop them from fcuking up completely!), but from where I'm standing there's doing a good job - I mean how many times in the past 25 years have we been in financial danger, despite a relatively rapid rise up the non-league ladder. Sure, there's room for improvement, but i'd rather have Welling still around and solvent in 10 years time in the same league than end up like a Dover, Dartford, Maidstone, Kingstonian, Leeds.....cos if it's taken over by someone, then there's a high chance of that happening!
Of course I'd love to see us move up and get the success we had in the 80's, but you gotta be realistic and anyway, what's the main reason for supporting a non-league club other than silverware - well I'll tell you - it's the cameraderie, the friendships, the feeling part of the family, the travelling to different grounds, the craic with the oppo.....  if you don't feel any of these then without that slim chance of success what does Welling United actually do for you?

Why does it automatically equate that improving commercial areas etc equals putting the club at risk. You can move them forward by HARD WORK not some joy riding moneybags. That is the LAZY solution.

It is becoming more evident by the day we have the club we deserve.

Most of the support are happy with their level of input and will probably not get of their arse to do more, the ownership like the way they run the club.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG PER SE IN THIS. I JUST CAN'T SEE EITHER SIDE BEING HONEST ENOUGH TO ADMIT IT AT THIS POINT TO EACH OTHER OR THE WIDER WORLD!

And until each side does or we all change our attitudes it will continue until we all retire or shuffle off the coil. And those that feel we can improve through harder sweat will continue to feel frustrated, regardless of which side of the fence they sit.

And if you feel I am wrong I am open to reasoned debate why, just it might not be immediate as I am off to Switzerland.

Would a member of the WSU care to state how much they have donated to the club since 2004?

Frankly if the sum of money is correct THEN WELL DONE ALL...

But if it is correct, how on gods earth have we been cutting budgets and saying that the FA Cup/Trophy money went on past debts.

Commercially the club do little , The WSU is there to make sure all supporters money goes straight to the club, Financially we cannot compete with lower league clubs.

I dont want the earth, i really dont. all i want is a commercial Department that knows what its doing, A Supporters Association thats democratic and not run by the club, A Bit of ambition from the owner, The news that once just once we sign a Quality player from a club similar to us who is wanted by others, A reserves team. And the Club not to slag off anyone who criticises because do you know what , we all realise we are a small club but there are an awful lot of people that realise the club is the parasite, accountable to no one and inept off the pitch but raking in any money that comes there way while invvesting no time or money back in.

Cheers

Lets face facts, as a newbie sees it.  Stafford, JgFc, Anonymous............great threads and some valid points.  Everyone is allowed to make a comment about whichever club that they support...........even if they can't get to any of the games. Some fans might have moved miles away, but are still entitled to have their say.  I can understand where JgFc is coming from, in the fact that the club does diddly squat towards promoting itself  and complains that it has to pay outstanding debts even with a good cup run etc. confused  The floodlight fiasco was a prime example. A chairman? with cash to spend? has to ask the fans to contribute and still get a 20% grant towards the cost. So where has that £8000 gone? New car for himself? I have heard in the past that WU and it's board were, shall we say, shrewed around a pound note, but for goodness sake, put your hands in your pocket and outdo the lower league clubs for a change.
We have to move forward and generate money for success.

I would imagine the 8k went towards the 40k paid out in advance of the grant.  Press reports suggest we are still c10k down, after the fundraising.
