Many of us will have grown up with the western, it having been an essential ingredient in the Saturday morning cinema club programme and for many of us early visits to the cinema were to see a western as the main feature - Yes we had 2 films per visit. It has became a dying breed with only sporadic releases - this could be about to change.
I went to a pre release showing of 3:10 to Yuma, (a remake of the 50's film which starred Glenn Ford and Van Heflin) earlier this week and can thoroughly recommend it. The pace picks up throughout the film and the performances from Russell Crowe as the baddie and Christian Bale as the goodie are top draw. It also manages to pack in some great one liners which had the preview audience laughing heartily.
If the movie gets the success it deserves it could easily spawn both remakes of other great westerns and original stories of the Wild West.
