Get a quiz team going one night, a pool team another night, a darts team another night (womens teams too) advertise in local rags for players... Open Sunday lunch, Keep the bars open dont close the bar for a 50 quid function when the fans would spend more over the jump...
They dont want the bar open as its less work for them, Take their wages stay mid table do as little as possible and pay as little as possible for staff (hence get crap staff) or get them to do it for nothing.
(Mark will say wrong... but he wont say how or why)
Dont talk to me about sales or marketing or running pubs or clubs mark... you aint got a "scooby" fenton.

At least you put spme reasons why you believe its wrong, so thats a start. You cant tell me we get the max out of the bars. Just look at other clubs to see what they do.

I've been to some clubhouses that are very busy when matches are not played and used by people who don't watch the football teams i.e. VCD, Bognor, Eastbourne, Folkestone.
Thing is most of the clubhouses that do well attract people who don't have a good pub nearby (if any) or use them whilst other activities are going on (VCD has adjacent sports/leisure hall). I don't think we'll get many non PVR regulars using the bar midweek with the amount of pubs close by.

Good ideas but we're in the wrong location - all the pubs nearby do a similar thing. We do well with functions and the occasional event but can't see us attracting many more. The first thing to attract is more fans to the clubhouse (i saw loads of Bath City fans around the pubs in Welling).
True - I suppose it is in a difficult location being past the high street as well - still I def think open it up for the bigger Eng/Prem games tho - maybe a few fliers at home games advertising that it's open and see how many turn up
I agree that the number of local pubs may be a factor but membership clubs like the CIU clubs seem to survive in similar environments. From the Wetherspoon experience we know that variety and cheap pints = punters but this can attract to put it politely an element of users they could do without.
Perhaps combining the two with the exec lounge being used for functions would be an option. Would it be worth the setting it up - the use made of their facilities by other clubs would suggest that it might be.

It would help if they had sky in the clubhouse, most people go to the Guy and get half-time scores and a pint where you dont have to drink it in record time before tou are thrown out.
Bruno, you mentioned CIU clubs. Probably the nearest CIU to WUFC was the West Wickham club and that folded shortly after Wetherspoons opened The New Cross Turnpike.

Unless my eyes were deceiving me at the last home game - they had sky sports new on in the clubhouse
Also it is annoying when you have to drink up your pint in 30secs because they are closing the bar - can't they just give it an extra minute or two! - and I haven't been to Lewes in a couple of years but they used to let you drink on the terraces with plastic glasses - I suppose they would never allow that to happen at PVR
You could drink your beer outside the bar in Lewes on Friday night. I was surprised as I understood that it was against the conference rules. I know that Bromley have stopped the practice now that they have ben promoted.
Hmmm dont they need a fee paying for that? But how about making the club house £5-10 a year membership (With a £ same voucher for the club shop in return) and Guests £1 to enter and having a wide variety of Cheaper beers and drinks.
More turnover , i know i know.. they wont pay.. If you relaunch the bars with Sky Sports and more beers and drinks and advertise to get a quiz, pool or darts team..then maybe just maybe you would get say 100 members plus say another 10-20 guests a game that could finance the Sky Sports. Would the WSU Finance the monthly rental for Sky Sports or would the club want the money direct to them?
