No - if you support a team you would never back against them. If Welling are 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go are you pacing up and down praying they hang on are are you pacing up and down hoping that Eastbourne get 2. With £8k on the outcome (stake alone) it's no contest. There are plenty of bets to be had out there, you don't ever need to bet against the team you support.
Kind of makes my point stronger doesn't it - Eastbourne will be odds on, not exactly a bet of the day. If football was about your head not your heart then I wouldn't be a Welling supporter - it isn't, it's a passion. When I pace up and down it's because I want my team to win. To my mind it would be unthinkable to walk away thinking great Welling lost I've made some money.
I agree in principle, but does that count for the amount of fans that have betted against us in the Prediction League? I appreciate that there isn't any money involved, but surely the theory is the same?
Comes down to who you want to win. There have been plenty of games which I have expected Welling to lose and if I did a prediction league I might well predict a defeat, but a prediction league is a bit of fun - it would not stop me hoping that Welling won. I don't see how you can support a team but not want them to win every match (maybe London Senior Cup aside).
I bet to make money on opportunities i think are value, At the moment we are gash vs the teams at the foot, We are struggling and playing a team in form. Whether we win or not my bet wont affect that.
How would i feel if we lost and i won 4k? Great thanks, How would i feel if we won and i lose 8k? We might have a chance of survival then. Am i hoping we lose? Well having 8k on you could argue yes... I just think its finding money on the street and will be shovelling the cash on.
I dont see it as "wrong" its not my fault if they are playing crap and out of form. When Adie was here i won enough backing us, im not betting against us for the sake of it, I think we will get absolutely slaughtered 3 or 4 nil and only Omari can get us anything. The midfields old, Blackman is shi te and moral is low.
If it makes any difference i will be laying welling tomorrow for most of the stake so a draw wins me a decent amount too. Just the Welling win that will cattle me.
Id love to be on here saying im backing welling in the next game but that can only happen if they are showing any decent signs. For the moment only a welling win in games will lose me money and i cant see that happening at the moment unfortunately.

You may possibly have a point if it is a 'social bet'. However, if it is, in effect, your day job it would be stupid not to use the League you have most information on to render your cash from. And that will normally be the one that you support a team in. A fifteen year history of this club rarely upsetting the odds would suggest a low probability it will happen tonight.
I happen to support Rosenborg as well. If you said I had to make the weeks money on a bet tonight, it would all be on Chelsea. We are sh*te away full stop at the moment, haven't won away in 16 Champions League attempts and, even at poor value, I'd probably back a Chelsea win. I'd be overjoyed with a point, but this is real life, and the probability is next to zero.
Hard nosed that may be but football, however much some people want it to, does not exist in a vacuum from the rest of life. There are very few affluent sentimental gamblers.
