"The worst thing you can do is make a committment and not meet it and I understand that." Barrie Hobbins 14 August 2010
Today was grim. If we cannot put away teams like Sutton then we are a lost cause in this division. Maybe thats the answer we will always be adrift towards middle-bottom of the table under the current regime.
Our only answer was to stick Stuart Nethercott up front late in the game. A man who has hardly played all season, is at the end of his game and we expect him to give us the three points.
I have no doubt that the words"difficult conditions" will be in Neil's reports this week but it was the same for both sides. To be honest Sutton's show justify's their place in this division and if it wasn't for their poor finishing and some good saves from JT there would not be a bigger calling for the managers head before Xmas.
More worryingly the clubs newsletter makes notes about helping the budget from funds raised and an offer to purchase next years season ticket at a discount. Its a concerning situation if we are financing this season off next seasons revenue and whatever money raised is not going towards improvements but to finance the playing budget. If Neil goes whenever, as I'm sure on current standards he will be lucky to last the season, the next guy will ask what is the budget and on this basis may find it less.
Looking at the attendance today I would put it around the 400 mark f we are lucky. If this trend continues we are on a downward spiral.
Still on the front foot though, if I get two votes for player of the season Mooro will get them both
Yes mate, good solid performance week in week out. Gets on with his job without a fuss and just does whats asked. I would give it to Mooro on the basis that he is more vocal and whilst Robbie is consistent you almost forget about him. Moor to me is one of the few who plays for the shirt.
I dont wish to have a donwer on Neil but if his motivation on the pitch is to BollXXk the life out of everyone, his man managment skills need to be improved. With Stuart Nethercot also playing who does the analysis on the side now?
That's 4 league games without a goal. We have strikers who don't want to pass the ball and midfielders who can't create. Its no wonder the BKK and JGFC go for defenders to be our best players (and I agree that the two mentioned are the best two players). How the hell is Smith going to turn around - come to that how will anyone else. The club have no money - want to spend next season's now (that is desperation) gates are dropping rapidly because performances are so poor, which means less money. We seem to be on a rapidly increasing downward spiral. If we spend next seaons money now and still get relegated - which is likely under this management - then we could disappear down the leagues as quickly as we once came up them.
Something has to change - the club need to gamble. They aren't going to get more people through the gates if we perform like this. The Hobbins aren't going anywhere so the only chance is a new manager who can hopefully (it is a gamble) start to get this lot to perform and hopefully get some people back through the gate. We have to break this cycle - doing nothing is not an option.
The Hobbins need to hold their hands up and say they made a mistake in the Summer and Smith must go.
The Hobbins aren`t going to sack Smith. They have not got the bottle. They dont know what to do to be honest. Smith will be here for a good few weeks yet. The first thing Smith should do when the team next gathers for training is to give Chris Moore the captains armband. He is the only one who deserves it. Secondly he should introduce the players to each other, because they looked like they hadn`t met before when they ran about like headless chickens on Saturday. Thirdly he should work on at least one tactic. so the players have a plan. He could then bring in other tactics. Slowly though, as these players with a couple of exceptions dont look intelegent enough to absorb too much too quickly. Failing that can we play Bromley every week.
Chelwing, you have stated what most of us were thinking.......great post. I watched the game and wanted so much that we would win.............but we made an inferior team look good. As an onlooker, Nethercott looked like he had Lead in his boots and couldn't jump or run for the ball if he tried. Smudger, in my opinion, was playing for his job and played his socks off ( and headed the ball numerous amount of times ) but his and Nethercotts screaming and ranting at the other players did nothing to enhance a good performance from the rest of the team. Muku looked good on occassions, but could have cost us......wayward passing etc. Leon went walkabouts - Andy and Omari up front played a great game. My men of the match.......Robbie Ryan.......solid as ever Top man............Mooro I know that we are missng key players , but we should have dispatched this lot
I said months ago it was a crap appointment, said month ago he wont turn it round.
BUT you cannot blame it all on Smith. He shouldnt have been in the top 10 of the candidates. BUT The owner doesnt want a strong manager who will say i want this and that he wants someone new, inexperienced whos just grateful for the job.
We need to do the right things off the pitch and on the pitch will follow.
WE NEED
A Decent experienced manager A Reserves A Commercial Department And some new blood at least working on the club professionally not for expenses or the odd berni in meal! Skilled people who will improve things.
But that will take money out of the club and that will not happen.
Its a crying shame as the club is in a decent area forget charlton. If things are done properly we would get 1000 a week in this league and double that in the conference. FACT! and i may be proved right in the future.
As has been said if Barrie Sacks Neil its admitting they screwed up. But would they do the right thing next time or appoint another unproven or unsuccessful manager?
god knows! i shudder to think.
COME ON BARRIE go get a Fordy or Kinnear or someone whos managed in the league. there are plenty around who would apply. But please shape up off the pitch

Players in on loan- Charlie good start now gone down to our level Pugh longest illness in history.
HE SORRY THEY BOTH HAVE TO GO!
P.S in programme yesterday there was a comment bout fans coming on to the pitch v fisher if u hav 1steward and he is no where to be found then u have a problem there should be at least 4or5 stewards before there is a serious problem.
Jim O is right - Mooro should be captain - not sure why it was taken off him anyway. Chippy wasn't captain last year was he? - it was Daisy and Mooro when he was absent. Chippy does nothing to get the players going - Mooro is loud and plays with some passion. Mind you in Chippy's defence - it is difficult to get a word in with Smith's constant bo**ocking of his players
I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT WE CANNOT BEAT A TEAM AT HOME WHICH IS 7 POINTS ADRIFT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE. WE HAVE NOT SCORED ANY GOALS IN THE LEAGUE IN THE LAST 4 GAMES AND HAVE SCORED ONLY 17 GOALS IN 19 LEAGUE GAMES AND ARE NOT EVEN AVERAGING A GOAL A GAME IN THE LEAGUE THIS SEASON. WITHOUT DOUBT, WE HAVE REACHED CRISIS POINT. WE MUST SIGN A PROVEN STRIKER AT CONFERENCE SOUTH OR RYMAN PREMIER LEVEL WITHOUT DELAY OR OTHERWISE WE WILL DEFINITELY BE PLAYING IN THE RYMAN LEAGUE NEXT SEASON.
I believe Main went for around 15K + sell on which might explain why Neil had no chance of signing him even if he had expressed interest (which he may have done for all I know)

which is less than we got for keds. so they could hsve got a decent striker for 10k and kept 2k for the pot..... we didnt get anyone and have had more strikers than arthur scargill all free.

jgfc is right. All the problems stem from the off the field running of the club.A thought entered my head that made me shudder. It was a picture of the two Barrys sat around a table with the other members of the commitee who supposedly run the club sipping pints and making plans for the rest of this season and going into next year. Hugh plans like shall we paint those tatty black chipboard hoadings surrounding the pitch or will they be alright for another year. Shall we buy Barry a better fork because the pitch looks shi??e since colin left. The Amateurish way the club is run is staggering in this era. Even if the club cannot afford to pay full time wages to the players, the club officials should make the effort to run it professionally. As far as Im aware the Hobbins boys make their living out of it. So why dont they do a professional job. Or is it just a hobby thay makes them a few bob on the side. They would do well to remember that the season ticket holders and the other folk who turn up each week will be far less inclined to do so if the club a relegated.
