Welling United: Powell (Highstead), Howe, Davis (Bartley), Levie, Ohakam, Aldous, Crawford, Boakye, Mosedale, Savage (Otley), Rosan. No unused subs only three named.
So thats the NO First X1 starters. Puts it into perspective i spose. Margate had a few faces playing. Well done the young lads and fringe players hopefully Neil will have one or two involved the weekend.

match coverage full recorded commentary from last night. they cant connect their equipment to do it live.... they should ask me lol. But it seems the club fully support their radio.
Margate bloke if you read this... two ways get a wireless router with a signal boosting arial and connect to that or use a broadband data card or usb modem. no charge! Or call Hornchurch and speak to Uncle Urchin.
Easiest way is just stream off a laptop from the stand via the grounds internet connection, if no connection use a broadband data card (T moblie or vodafone)

"Ahem... Maybe its Margate who have the problems if our youths and ressies go down by 1 goal."
or maybe as I suspect we have some young players with potential. For a Club of Welling's status the County Cups are an ideal way of blooding such players and as part of their development exposing them to the sort of football they are likely to experience as their careers develop. In normal circumstances I would have expected a few first teamers in there as the backbone but in my view given the situation with the first team and the hectic schedule ahead the side selected was probably the best one on the day.
Lets hope that those who continue to show potential don't go the way of some of last years U18's.

Aside from Ohakam and the 1st team fringe players Powell, Crawford and Boakye about whom in some cases we know very little, who are these players? Under 18's? reserves?
The one name I had expected to see along with Danny Aldous was Louis Dean who I know has played for both the U18 KYL side and the reserves this season but perhaps he is in the college based side and they have an important League Cup tie against Ebbsfleet scheduled for today.

Too bloody right it does which was what I was trying to get across in my posts yesterday. I think the focus on the match should be well done to those who played and not Smith Out. So well done to all those who donned the Welling shirt last night, I hope you made the most of the opportunity to show what you can do and most of all that you enjoyed the experience.

I agree Bruno - last night was not about Smith out - it was about giving youth a chance. A poor performance on Saturday and the pressure will mount. Maybe even the club will recognise that the support for Smith is now virtually zero.
Me too Mark. A loss on Saturday could drop us right in the poo. All the other Teams around us have at least one game in hand. And seeing as Fisher and Havant are the only one's with a league game. The rest will be playing catch up while we sit sweating on results later in the season. So we face a must win game against a side who have 10 points more than us,and above all know where the net is. Still at least I can have a few beers before the game. You have to watch it sober.

But look at last year. Several used for league games or cup games and most just let go at end of season. NOT once was a youth player used to develop them on or merit it was as a body! you cannot argue with that i am afraid.
It would be Nice if a few appeared on merit and were kept on. Sadly thats not the way we operate, its "ooh eck we need x amount of players and he will do" hopefully this will change.
Any reason why with the KYL and College players used we could only have 3 on the bench? Surely an opportunity to get a couple more guys involved on a match day was lost.

My hope is your reference to player development reflects past experience and hopefully things will be better in the future.
However that said, these players are in a difficult position in reality. Whilst their first few adventures with the first team are likely to be looked upon favourably because they are youngsters, the reality is they are young adults who will need to warrant their place in the squad, on their own performances as first team quality very, very soon.
It would be interesting to know how many of last years youth now play for anyone else's 1st team at this level?
I also accept that some will argue that the U18's are still possibly two years away from making the 1st team and we should be developing them until they are ready. To a point the reserve side gives you that chance, but we should also remember that the old saying about being good enough is old enough usually works at our level too.
Anyway, great experience for the players, a taste of what is expected and a chance to make an impression.
Well done to all...
btw.....I agree we should have taken the opportunity to ensure we had a full squad present....even if that included talented U16's who warmed the bench for experience...hopefully next time!
