Hobbins has already received several applications for the position despite the fact the club have only announced Smith's exit on their website so far.
Why has it only been announced on the website ?? I would have thought it in the clubs best interest to shout from the rooftops that we are looking for a new manager. We're fortunate to have a little break between games at the moment, we should be making the most of it.
A decent advert in the right place would flood the club with enquiries and would be an administrative nightmare for a club effectively run by one/two men, but ultimately well worth it - we have to get the right man this time around.
I don't agree. We need to move relatively quickly (without rushing in to the wrong decision). It makes a lot more sense to use contacts within football (Lennie L etc) and look at who else makes contact. This may present exactly the type of person we need and the appointment can be made.
If we advertise it will be two weeks before the deadline for submissions and then another delay sifting through all the applications to identify the experience needed.
So let's use the networks and word of mouth first and get ready to post an advert if necessary. If there are no suitable candidates then advertise rather than accept second best for the sake of speed.
I think everybody is missing the point regarding advertising. It costs money to advertise in the right places. We very much scrimp and save and cut corners at Welling. If they have 12 applicants already, they won't stump up any cash to advertise!
Mark is right - anyone who knows anything about the non league scene - i.e. the person we want - should have their noses to the ground and will know. I would hope that the good available people have been monitoring the situation for some time as this was predictable. We don't want some bloke who has been managing in Yorkshire (nothing against Yorkshire - well maybe a little bit)
Pardon? By not advertising you are accepting second best.
How can you believe you have the best man for the job when most of the potential applicants dont have a scooby theres a job up for grabs?
Don't agree - so many people in football know when jobs are up for grabs. How did Lennie Lawrence know? How come people i know (who aren't interested in Welling or Non league) are commenting on it? You'd be surprised how quickly word spreads.
Gary you cannot deny there will be some that do not know about the job, It would also be foolish to admit that you believe by not advertising you would be getting the best man for the job. If you dont advertise it how do you know you have the best man?
Please dont take the clubs side on everything.
Ok you own a business and your mates mate or a friend of a friend wants the job, by all means give it to him but by not advertising the vacancy you are not getting the best man for the job in almost all cases.
We are in this mess because we cut corners, Advertising the job would give you more candidates to pick from and a better chance of getting the right man.
Lennie Lawrence is a close friend of the hobbins and has always kept close tabs on the club.
There are correct ways to do things and advertising would be the correct way, if you dont believe that then fair play and good luck.

I guess I hoped that with the Smith situation becoming increasingly dire that the club would have been putting out feelers about who was around. It seems like none of this was done and we are starting from scratch now. For example, Andy Ford isn't with a club as far as I am aware so that could have checked out if he would be interested if the situtaion arose. It would seem they have nobody in mind so this could be a lengthy period of uncertainty. As Moore has said it is difficult to attract players with uncertainty and we need some new players quickly.
I'll agree that there will be plenty of people who don't know about it or even want to know about it. I just think that the people who would be interested will know from contacts (at this level of football). There's only so many managers 'at this level or above' around the country.
My point was about not advertising you're getting second best. Just don't agree. I would if we were looking for players, someone to build a wall etc etc at pvr but with management the potential candidates are pretty small.
A message on our website might help - but what manager really visits other websites in case a job came up? They's only visit if they've heard something. If however we placed an ad in the non league paper then I'd agree it would be seen by far more people.
Please dont take the clubs side on everything. I've been a critic on here enough about the structure of the club, commercial/marketing/pr (and things i won't mention on messageboards)
