I'd have to say that vs Newport the opening half hour we played as badly defensively as I can re-call (I missed the 1st 10 minutes of the Lewes game!). That isn't just the back four it was the whole team. It looked men against boys and I thought that Newport were going to rack up a cricket score. At one moment the whole defence watched in admiration as a striker who had been stood with them moments earlier challenged Jamie Turner without a defneder in attendance! This was followed by a winger being chased by 2 defenders and a midfielder rather than at least one of them taking the quicker route to the penalty area to defend the inevitable cross which instead took three of them out of the game. I could go on but watching this inept defensive display which just now seems to be what we must expect does make me feel that we have no chance of picking up the points we wil need to survive. Then lets look at team selection Robbie Ryan on the bench Sony Chaos Cobbs the preferred option Joe average on a good day Howe plays whilst Leon Solomon isn't even in the squad Yes I know Leon has had a poor season, but I felt a kick up the backside was the antidote not you are "left out in the cold" Then we subistiute Mooro who after making a basic error for the penalty played with considerable heart and determination Coupled with Mucu who looked threatening and has shown he can score in recent weeks and repalced the latter with a guy whose contribution amounted to diddly squat. Then we put on Michael Boakye rather than Omari Coleman, now who would you rather have had those chances at the end fall to, the clubs top scorer this season or someone who o my knowledge has never played up front before?
Two of the players yesterday were Loan Extendees that the managaer wil have decided upon a Further 3 players were brought in by this manager The manager palyed Cobbs and howe in prefernce to solomon and Ryan (perhaps they were injured )
Rome wasn't built in a day but after 5 games / 1 month you would hope that some foundations had been laid.
Finally on Saturday I would like to 11 players fight for this club for 90 minutes not just 2 or 3 once we are already losing.
The sad thing is that despite our shocking perfomance on Wednesday we could have very easily nicked a point. Lets hope lessons are learned from this
Good post mate. Baffling substitutions. Treatment of Moore in last two games a disgrace. Who knows Coleman might have got that header at the end. Inept bringing Boakye on instead.
With a few exceptions a very poor performance. Condiserably more fight and heart required if we're to survive.
I think from the comments already on this messageboard that I will be alone in saying this but I thought Welling were unlucky not to get a point on Wednesday. We did ride our luck at times at the back and when Moore went off we did look very wobbly against the high ball which teams like Newport love. But we did create chances and at times looked like a reasonable outfit. With a bit more composure in front of goal we would have gained a point.
We have played some of the better sides recently. If we lose to Weston at home and Maidenhead away then its time to say it looks like Ryman League next year.
In fairness to Ford he has been lumbered with the worst set of players Welling have ever had and he only has 2 loans to go. And good players at this time of the season are on contract and we don't have the money to start paying transfer fees. Ford is having to make do with what he has which is of pretty poor quality.
As for Leon I have to say it looks like he is not up for the fight going by his performances this season. I know that no one likes Joe Howe but to be honest I don't think he's played that badly.
Ryan may have been left on the bench because of a lack of fitness. I agree that he is a good defender but he has had serious injuries in the past and this may be haunting him at the moment.
And Coleman is another one who never looks fit and probably wouldn't have even been in the position that Boakye got himself in. Omari is reminding me more and more of Darren Adams. All left foot and no effort.
Having said all that Hampton at home will be very difficult. They walloped us at their place.
Robbie Ryan was on the bench because he was suffering from the Flu. As for the rest of the 'players' ( apart from Muku and Mooro ) they played like a pub team and couldn't tackle to save their lives. The ref was a disgrace and the lino on our side of the park only raised his flag when the Newport players shouted the loudest. We never stood a chance. Let's hope that Fordy and Barny give our lot a kick up the jacksy before tomorrows game, otherwise I fear the worst. Come on you Wings, let's see commitment and a good result.

I agree - I thought we could easily have got a point. I have been a bit perplexed by the men against boys stuff - I thought I must have been at a different game. Also agree about the subs points - I was assuming Mooro isn't fully fit. I couldn't understand why Coleman didn't come on - surely if you are losing you replace a forward with a forward.
Also agree that the officials were a joke - may as well have given a Newport player the flag if they were going to make the lino's decisions for him.
