Bath City made a nightmare start to the new Blue Square South campaign as unfancied Welling ran riot on the opening day of 2008-09 at Twerton Park.
pr1ck!
12/5 for the win 33s for the league ,end the season second in the form table, 16 new signings and a few of those attracting proper interest from league sides? Manage won the feeder to Conference before. .
Great journalism.....
UNFANCIED?? lets hope we remain unfancied eh? thank you very much.

do you actually understand betting odds? 12/5 on a game and 33/1 to win the league would imply unfancied
Yuffie do you understand "the wrong price" Do you understand 16 new players and some of those signed from League teams? Or having trials with several league teams. Do you understand a Manager that won the equivalent league before and the teams end of season form. 2 key signings in the days leading upto the game when the odds were already published are another factor.
Do you understand betting to the degree i do?
12/5 against a team who had injuries to 3 key players, given the above was the wrong price and a comfortable 4-0 win away from home would suggest that the prices were wrong.
Please dont suggest i would say that as i support Welling as i have many times bet against Welling as the prices were wrong.
Thanks and good luck for the season.

so are you saying the bookies are all pr1cks or just the chronicle reporter for a perfectly reasonable comment?
and of all these 'reasons' why 33/1 is wrong, two contradict one another - with 16 new players your form from the end of last season is irrelevant
odds at our level are always going to be fairly arbitrary as bookies are unlikely to be taking account of injuries and last minute signings - we're not playing in the premiership
if you had money on the game yesterday you should be pleased that the odds were so good - equally if you've got 33s for the title then good luck to you, although i wouldn't expect many teams to gift you such as easy win this season - your defence, and keeper especially, looked poor and better teams than city will enjoy playing against them
Not a good vintage for the wine in Avon this year.
16 new signings contradictory? ARE YOU Look at Wellings end of season form and the 16 players are almost to a man better than we had so please tell me how the 16 new players contradict being a good thing when related to the betting odds?
I dont need to try and educate the uneducated. Perfectly reasonable piece by the Bath Journo?? PMSL "Bath Journo" the 2 key words there.
Atthe end of the day its only 3 points. But in relation to the betting odds and being fancied. the 12/5 has long since been paid out for the win. And the 4-0 win may suggest that 33s isnt a bad price to have.
As i said before good luck this season but rather than Wellings defence and keeper looking poor, I would suggest that you leaking 4 goals and glue gloves letting one in would suggest you should look at your team first..
This history books and bank balances will show Bath 0 Welling 4.
Move on please.

The bookies do get it wrong sometimes and it's usually with sport they don't necessarily understand.
I remember with great pleasure the first time they had betting on a GP at Brands Hatch. In one of the supporting races they had every driver on the same odds. There was a driver in the series Wilkinson I think his name was that had won every race he'd finished. I made an absolute killing that weekend.
I believe with the Conference South they've just based the odds on last year's form. 33's is a really good bet considering the squad we've now got. Have a £1 each way if nothing else.
