Add that one to the two on Saturday and we have ourselves a player here
With the pace in our side this year we are going to get loads of free kicks on the edge of the box PLUS a few penalties
Their defence looked scared when we ran at them
If I was to be picky I thought that the crosses supplied from both sides lacked quality but hey!!!! we won - I am sure that the crosses will be sorted out
Also didn't Healey take his 'offside' goal well - great header
Really enjoying watching this team
If we can turn over Basingstoke on Saturday then I can go on holiday happy!!!
All this with a great set of players on the bench plus Mucu and Chappell and Scoborough to come back
The pace of our side and the passing was excellent last night. Totally different type of attacking football that i haven't seen for years. Really enjoyed watching us after the previous drab opening fixtures.
Takes some doing to curl and dip a free kick at that speed - what a free kick (hope there's a video of it).
The crosses were a bit off last night (over hit and too deep at times) but i think at the moment our strength is attacking straight on with the wide players cutting in. Good thing is we don't have to rely on getting the ball wide like last year when we had no options in the centre.
Braintree had a couple of breaks forward in the second half that other teams might take advantage of. I wonder if we will still play such attacking football in other games? will it switch to a bit more defensive or carry on attacking? Personally i hope we play to our strengths and attack with the mentality of - if they score two, we score three.
totally agree with the above comments - great to watch last night and when it looked like we were going to have one of those games and not score we have a moment of magic from Martin
agree with the points about balls into the box - but plenty of time to improve and the team for me felt like it is a new team and with a few more games under their belt can get even better - and maybe Healy and Sheringham need to make headers as they werent winning anything in the first half - but again will come with time i feel
also another thing i liked about yesterday was even late on when it wnet 1-0 we were still trying for the 2nd goal - other teams would have sat back and tried to hold on for the win but we kept pushing up - it made for a nervy but exciting finish to the game
again great to watch and really looking forward to saturday's game
I think Ryan Martin is rubbish and is not good enough to play at a higher level and if he has to stay at Welling then I suppose we might be able to use him as a squad player.......
Agree with most of the sentiments from last night. After trying to play too much long ball early on we looked far better when we started making shorter passes. Great to see some PACE and good movement throughout the team for the first time in a few seasons. I was encouraged by the way we went for a second goal but still felt we overplayed at times when we needed to kill the game off.
One small gripe on an otherwise very postive night - I didn't notice any of the three substituted players (who all played thier part) acknowledge the supporters when they left the field. It doesn't take much and I am sure would be appreciated.
Some will not see the humour in that post... and there will probably be one who thinks , cor thats a bit strong.
All we can hope is that these players like Martin keep their head screwed on. They will all have scouts watching so they need a consistently good performance to impress.
If a club makes a decent offer then Welling wont stand in their way. Thats not to say they can leave for £50 and a set of tracksuits!

but if they keep performing well then the main thing is Welling United benefit from their time at PVR. And the club continues its progress.
:)
PS was Teddy there last night? Loads of greyhound fans moaning he never turned up at the stow. Ive told em to hush up cos Teddy was there the week before doing his bit. For anyone that doesnt know Walthamstow Dogs is closing saturday after the C**** sold it to housing consortium for 31m

agree with this - but i feel these types of things will be ironed out once they have played a few more games together and have gelled more
and yeah it would have been nice but it's still good to have a couple of heroes in the making
I have to agree that last nights match was very enjoyable and that Ryan Martins goal was a peach.
We mustn't allow ourselves to get carried away though. We are a new side, it is still very early in the season and as one would expect there are still areas to be worked on, particularly in my view in the area of goalscoring. Last night it seemed we want to walk the ball in with nobody prepared to take responsibility and shoot when they found themselves in a position to do so. though in the short time he was on the pitch Sol Pinnock found space on a couple of occasions and his body language indicated that had he been spotted he would have had a crack.

agree with the point about not getting carried away - and Fordy has said that in his interview but it's still nice to feel positive about the team and the way we played for a few days!
I did not expect the team to gel so quickly. I'm sure there will be the odd hiccough. It will be interesting to see how they react (positively I'm sure).
