goes back to the conference? "other teams " would replace woking.

and who are our true local rivals? or team we hate? probably Dover ? Maidstone . As Dartford were but that went decades ago and bromley and fisher have boring fans and are shyte clubs.

When dover come back up it will be dover imo.

Never really been over excited by the so called rivalry with Dover as they are not exactly on our doorstep.

For all longstanding Welling fans I think D******* are still the true rivals. Some great games with them at PVR and Watling Street in the past. Will never forget Gary Julians, after taking some real flak off the Dartford fans at PVR, scoring twice against them and running over to the old corrigated cover and sticking two fingers up at them..............magic !

The two D's are playing each other tomorrow at Princes Park. I am tempted to go along as I imagine it might be a little tasty and hope that both teams lose !!

I've been called many things in my time, but I've never been called an ultra before.

Bath was my first away game for Welling, we lost 2-0 under the Parker era, was the season before the Conference South started. Remember all us singing 'We don't care' as we were safe smile.gif

Thanks to Mini for that as well (first away game for me)

Somewhat different to my first away match, Woodford Town, on a Tuesday, I think, in the Southern League.

Went with a mate who's Uncle was something to do with them and he had to deliver something to one of their officials. Twas a rather rank wet evening and I think we won, as said official was rather grumpy at the end. Thus my only personal encounter with Bobby Moore was a somewhat brief and curt encounter lasting about 10 seconds, as it was he.....

And I can't recall much of the game either as we spent half of it trying to fix the tin roof on their reporter's shed!

'WE DONT CARE WHAT THE WOKING SAY?'

If anyone has been away to Woking over the years will understand the rivalry.

I've been to most away games there and just the players were bad enough (Batty, the Selley tackle etc). Not to mention their fans who stand right by the away fans giving it large. It's been close to kicking off big time at Woking. Plus their old manager Chapple slating us AND Neil Smith being a Woking legend!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_J2xa1V9n4

ps. don't like the ground either - out of town, crap facilites with just one huge stand behind the goal (?)

only been there once for that fa trophy game a couple of years back - that 2footed selley tackle and then a stamp on bodkin and faked injury so he could con the ref into just booking him

was a fantastic game of football though - a proper cup tie with an amazing atmosphere throughout and drama all the way through - we deserved the draw after the penalty save but still one of my favourite games of football and one ill never forget(even though i was gutted for a week afterwards)

A few ingregients for Woking like

a)  being the nearest Conference club for a while

b) came from nowhere waving the wad and larging it

c) Chapple slagging us for kicking them off the park after they had spent several seasons doing it to us

d) being slap bang next to the standing home support at theirs with some very arsey stewards around

e) finding half your extended family had jumped on their bandwagon

f) the lack of any decent beer

g) the fact we mostly lost at the beginning

all probably didn't help

On the plus side there was the pieman on the bike inside the ground and they did play bloody well in the second half when I saw them tonk West Brom

You have to also remember we didn't play Dartford, Bromley, Fisher, Gravesend and Ebbsfleet often if at all in the early to mid 90s, when most of the current hardcore travelling support got going.

If you want a really mad sond it would be the day we had a chorus for Erith and Belvedere when they were playing at St Leonards and we were at Hastings (the grounds back on to each other).

I was reading recently about the sings the teams in the premiership run out to, Typical ones for Liverpool etc and Everton have Z cars.

One team however who now escape me come out to Insomnia by Faithless. Now there a tune we could run out to....just to watch bubbles giving it big fish, little fish ,cardboard box together with the rest of the stand would make it worth it

HOW ABOUT CRAZY HORSES BY THE OSMONDS, FITS IN WITH OUR BADGE THEN. OR SOMETHING BY WINGS. IT NEEDS TO HAVE SOME MEANING AND/OR CONNECTION TO THE CLUB.

HAVE WELLING EVER HAD A MASCOT - I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA, KIDS LOVE THEM. WOULDNT COST THAT MUCH TO DO EITHER.

no way for a mascot - unless we get the welling werewolf back! but he has to be told not to climb up floodlights, dive onto the pitch from bins or take free-kicks during the game!

There have been a few times in the last 8 years Slayer's Season's In The Abyss would have been more than appropriate.

Fortunately we seem to have moved on.....

I remember when I first went to Welling as a kid it was always "ain't no stopping us now". Bring it back I say.

I also remember a while back Barry Lakin chose a Dean Martin song. Can't remember which one.

I am just greatful the team no longer comes out to the strains of "the A Team". How about Manfred Manns "The mighty Quinn"?
