why didnt the club try and get danny kedwell do they want us to go up .you just get the feeling they are just happy with mid table every year. when we get good players you know we wont keep them .where does the money go not back into the team thats for sure
I imagine it all comes down to money. If we had 2500 attending home games or maybe fans who would pledge to meet his wages for the season then I suspect we would have had a chance, as it is we cannot compete transfer-wise with the AFC's of this world.
Can I point our your last few posts have been answered in record time by anon (not me), and have all been very negative (getting wet, ground rumours and ambition). Why so unhappy?
What is with the automatic presumption Kedwell would be as good as when he left? He may well be but I would expect Grays would have found a way to keep him, even part time, if he was pulling up trees.
Would you have had the same reaction if Kedwell had never played here? I suspect maybe not.
I'm not shouting from the rooftops that we should have gone hell for leather to get Keds signature when it became known that he was available. Quite simpliy we haven't got the 10K signing on fee plus wages which if John Main is getting what it was rumoured Keds is likely to have negotiated.
Considering the timing of announcements and the speed with which Keds was passed medically fit and signed it looks as if it was a done deal from the outset anyway.

I would have loved to have seen Keds back at PVR, but, financially, that was impossible. My only thought is, if AFC Wimbledon get promoted to the Conference Premier, what will he do then?
WTID and other doubters, I'm not sure what makes you believe the Club has no ambition beyond not spending money they don't have to bring a former Welling favourite back to PVR.
I have always called the situation as I see it (and will continue to do so) which on more than one occasion has sent people running for the cross and garlic and many have and may still regard me as an enemy of the Club but I can assure you I for one do not believe that the club has demonstrated a lack of ambition this season - quite the opposite in fact.
Lets be clear about the Club ambition of late.
They appointed Fordy who has a proven track record of taking a Conference South level side to the Conference National on a budget which was by no means the best in its League. It was not a one season task but Fordy had a very definite plan to consolidate and then go for it which I believe he is doing at PVR.
They have increased the playing budget and based upon Welling's history this will have done this with some prudence though I suspect this season there is an element of calculated risk.
A reserve side has been established which Fordy has made use of already.
There can be no guarantee that the ambition shown will achieve results but so far this season we have seen a new young side make a good start to the campaign. gates have gone up and there is a positive buzz about the place. As for mid table mediocrity I would consider a mid table or better finish this season and a decent run in the Cup and/or Trophy as an achievement.

Purely on paper Keds goalscoring record last season was I believe 9 goals in open play and 4 penalties in 40 league appearances which included a 15 match dry spell. This season he failed to score in his 8 appearances for Grays.
During his last 4 months with us Keds scored 4 goals from open play and 1 pen in 20 league appearances.
I for one would not pay 10K for him on that form.

If AFC Bandwaggon go up and Keds wants to come back pay him in line with the other players or pencil in a bonus for 25 league goals.
We owe players who leave nothing. I have nothing against Danny going to AFC. I question his ability and i think hes questioning it. Having a baby? Erm, plenty of couples get child care.
Plain fact is hes been useless for Grays and didnt do a lot for us in the last few months and wanted to leave, Good luck Keds with the kid and at AFC Bandwaggon.
Turn it around, IF keds said i want part time and i want to go back to Welling... then great hes had the opportunity to do so but no as always and its his call. hes gone for the pound note. So in a few years time when hes desperate for any pound note and wants to come back we should say no thanks Keds but good luck.
I think that you will find that AFC train 4 times a week and that Keds is on the same deal as he was at Grays
We simply could not dream of affording that and to be fair it is a good move for him
He may wave to Grays as they go the other way this year
AFC have the fan base and therefore the money - There is NOTHING we or most of the sides in the Conf South can do about that apart from maximise our takings when we play them
The story on the Grays board is not the whole truth me thinks
Chatting to Bod on Saturday that is how it seems
We have to wake up and smell the roses we are not in the 10k or to be fair any K transfer budget areas
We must move on and I am fully behind the Ford revolution
On Saturday and it has been stated elsewhere we played some great football in the second half with a very young team
When they get to grips with when to play that way and when to dig in we will see results
They appear to be trying to do an 'Arsenal' at the moment and score perfect goals
A little more ugly football at times is probably required
stupid topic - the club has given all the support it can afford to Fordy and as said above there is no way we would've been able to afford keds even though i still think he can do a great job at our level
Agreed. Nice to see that a stupid topic from the outset, littered with spelling and grammaratical errors and poor punctuation, has been turned into a sensible debate.
We will never be able to compete with the likes of AFC financially, and anyone that cant see that and claims it to be a "lack of ambition" is naive.
Nevertheless, and as I said at Thursday's WSU meeting, I'd still like to hear something from the club about its future/any commercial plans. Nothing really has been mentioned since Barry Wallace left.
Good debate, I want to see the team go forward with players that want to play for Welling within the wage cap we have, Fordys doing a great job so far, that's get behind the team roll on sat.
