I read in the local press that AF need some experience right through the core of the team.

So we sign a 22 year old striker off the bench at Eastleigh and a young full back/wide player off the bench at Fisher.

Aside from the fact that we are signing players who can't get into teams at our level - where exactly is the "experience" going to come from ??

Do you think its a bit Paul Parkeresque with regards to signing players during the season? Anyone will do?

I think the budget has gone up from last season when Andy needed more money he said to compete, he got it. But he is still turning over players on this higher budget as he hasnt signed the right players so has to ship some out, surely get them on trial in the RESERVES rather than sign them and if that means arranging midweek friendlies then do it. This is where i think the capital league or suburban? would have been better than the Kent League as we would have used the reserves for the first team fringe players/coming back from injuries and knocks and trialists.

Andy will say well ive used the budget up what do you want be to do. If i cant get the experienced players ive gone for i'll bring in a couple of bodies that may change things around.

What is most important is whoever Andy has brought in performs consistently and draws are turned into wins and loses turned into draws.

Things definitely don't seem to be going to plan. We need some decent players who are likely to stay for the duration otherwise we will just keep winning a few then losing a few. I can put up with that if it is just a transitional season but surely AF must know that the fans want to see some sort of stability in the team/squad. Back in the old days at least you could pretty much guarantee that those who started the season finished the season (not necessarily always successful towards the relegation era!)

I believe that a mix of experienced players and promising youngsters is the optimum and that ideally we need a couple of good experienced heads.  Having said that I hope your sentiments are wrong GaryH and that your words turn round and bite you on the bum!smilesmilesmile

that quote certainly bit Alan Hansen when he said it a few years back.

Perhaps we do need 1 or 2 older players. The way st albans defended, mouthed the ref and read our game i couldn't help thinking experience, rather than skill, won that dreadful game. With our young team we should have ran at their big lumps at the back more than we did. Pace must be one of our better attributes compared to some teams I've seen.
