While the topic is red hot I would ask what are the club doing to promote attendances?Very little from what I have seen.
Speaking with a friend earlier today he told me something which I hadnt picked up on and that is that there are no Premiership, Championship or League matches on 1 January when we play Bromley. There are also no Ryman nor I suspect Kent League matches.
Since many football fans have grown accustomed to going to a match on New Years Day this would appear to be a God given opportunity for the Club to pull out all the stops to generate a big attendance for this local derby. There are bound to be Palace, Charlton Dartford and dare I say it Millwall fans looking for a match to watch and there must surely be potential to exceed the Wimbledon gate.
At the very least I would expect adverts in at least some of the local rags News Shopper (Bexley and Bromley), The Bromley Times, the SVBT and maybe even the South London Press are potential candidates.

They are doing Kids for a Quid arent they this saturday and published it on the website on December the 6th. Ok so everyone wont read that. Maybe they could broker a deal with TIME FM for a 30 second welling update every morning and an advert running after the sports news on the next games and special offers. In return giving Time FM a banner/advert in programme.

That also goes for Invicta FM or the KM radio station. Or ask the so called Sports Editor at Radio Kent to mention the wings and their offers in their sports news on Radio Gillingham/Dover/Charlton depending where his tongue is entrenched.

Spot on Bruno and if the club does n't do it then maybe the WPC can? As you say all it takes is a couple of adverts in local papers- maybe do Kids for a Quid as a selling point?. And maybe even an ad in Charlton's Boxing Day match programme.

You could probably get charlton to do a tannoy announcement and put an insert in the programme that welling supply. I cant see charlton doing an advert. But something like that is a top idea.

that's actually a good idea! even if it's just the dj saying "get down to welling this weekend for the game against bromley on new years day" it's better than nothing and it's all about getting the clubs name out there
Over the next year lots of non league clubs will suffer with low crowds. Some might get by with good initiatives and this is where we really need to pull our finger out. Good on the club for this Saturday but we need to think about ALL games.
More adverts (not just in Welling), fans days, kids for quid, ladies free, bring a friend for half price, get in touch with local businesses to sell the upstairs bar plus sponsorship deals, invite schools/students, students with NUS card half price. Anything and everything really, especially when the Champions league, FA Cup matches kick in again.

more good ideas i have to say - and just need to tap into the surrounding areas - charlton are awful at the moment and charge a fortune to get in so we should take advantage of that
All Welling United have to do, is advertise and play better. How about getting a promotional video made and have it shown before films at Cineworld, like they used to do with adverts for chinese and indian takeaways back in the day :)
Adverts in local newspapers (all of them) and on a regular basis is a must.
that all costs money though - cineworld is impossible due to cost - adverts in papers possible but then where to you start cutting into the playing budget?
and on playing better - we play some lovely attacking football so dont see where you are coming from there
Lets turn downstairs into a "gentlemans club" like spearmint rhino ....on friday nights and sunday lunchtime. Charge £10 to get in for all the perves and take a 20% cut of the girls tips, where do we get the girls? Ask Joanne or look in the local rag. In homage of one of our esteemed posters we could call it "Kinky's", it would attract perves from all over the south. And bolster the coffers at the club.

Oh i know Welling are playing well. I didn't say they were playing badly. You just misunderstood what i was getting at that's all. No big deal :)
