I read the Paul Booth thread where he is described as a "legend" which, in my mind, is way over the top. He hasn't been doing the business for Havant and I am happy to stick with the forwards we already have.
This word "legend" is being used far too much in my humble opinion. I know we had a WSU "legends" night but I question how many of those players really warrant that tag.
Ray Burgess was a Welling legend Nigel Ransom was a Welling legend Gary Abbott was a Welling legend John Bartley was a Welling legend.
You could make a strong case for some of those from the successful Conference team of the Eighties and Nineties like Rambo, Glover, Horton, Handford, White, Robbins etc....but it seems to me that you don't have to do an awful lot these days to assume legendary status.....
To me a Welling legend is someone who gives his all for the club - passion, commitment, long service etc. Most of the old school players were at Welling for many seasons but todays footballers that's becoming a rare thing. I wouldn't have Keds, Booth down as legends. Players who could be future legends? The way Blackburn is playing and showing commitment he could be?
If you look at the last Legends Night organised by WSU I think the title was appropriate Rambo - definite Duncan Horton - definite Copes - definite Wayne Brown - definite Lenny Dennis for whom a case may be made
