To all,

Been going Welling proper for eight years now, been involved with the supporters team for five years and made some life friends throught this football club - I have been able to travel to some far afield places with the wings Blyth Spartans, Huddersfield, WSM etc but yesterday was the best day off my life as a wings supporter, even after having a shocker in the morning for the supporters team. As Graham said in below thread was there at 1.15 and seeing people drinking in sun the stalls etc I knew we were in for a good day.

After walking round and buying the match day badge if you didnt get one ask Peter in club shop if he has got any well worth it after that, we entered the ground and i was buzzing never been to a non league ground where at 2.10 there was like 500 + already in the ground, on to kick off and after 5 mins I had already lost my voice and the atomsphere from the welling lads was like none other seen before by myself - you can not down at charlton stand there with all the other supporters and get involved like that and i really felt we were helping the team with are support we were showing - on to the second half and standing in amongst the 3000+ home support, and outsinging them once again to the point where i think they felt like giving up when the goal went in I  thought we were all going to end up over the barrier hugging each other, jumping on each other it was MAD to say the least. We sang till we could not sing anymore and were singing the lads praises even after they had left the pitch, thought it was great when three or four off there fans clapped us after for the support we had shown.

If the lads who i met and spoke to after the game read this board who are new to the welling set up i encourage you to come again and help build on the support which was created yesterday and forget whatever league team you support and follow the wings, thanks to everyone making it a fantastic day, even thinking off asking the wife if we dont have to go away over the bank holiday but i want all my body parts intact, once again thanks everyone.

Alex Warner
Come on you wings!!!!

Without a doubt yesterday was one of the best games i have ever been to, not solely because of the peformance or result but the atmosphere and support we gave to the team. I'm pretty sure i nearly pushed Alex Warner over the barrier in the celebrations that followed our goal! Alex, the guys you were referring to you yesterday are mates of mine who i hope will be coming more often as they enjoyed the game. To all Welling fans who either did or did not attend yesterday's game, lets really get behind the team for the rest of the season. It would be good to try and get a similar following to Maidenhead next weekend. if we can perform like we did yesterday in the rest of the games then who knows, the playoffs might be possible. Come on you Wings!!

If we can get 200 at maidenhead it could be the start of a great end to season. Beat Maidenhead and Beat Chelmo and its within reach.

Just dropped by to offer all at Welling congratulations for a good performance both on and off the field. No complaints from me regarding the result. We have played a lot worse than that this season and won games. Pleased you enjoyed the visit to Kingsmeadow. I know some of our more BBB supporters can get up everyones nose with their "Cup Final " effect comments, however I wonder if anyone would care to offer a sensible perspective on this. I only ever get to see our games and there does seem to be a level of intensity which I wonder if it is repeated at many other games. I would stress that I mean no offence at all by this question, just would be really interested in your thoughts. Good luck in your remaining games...must have a shout at sneeking into the playoffs now

Our fans quite clearly adopted a 'cup final' mentaility.  There was probably about 200 of us which is double what we'll take to a similar distanced trip to Maidenhead next week. I saw a a lot of fans that I normally only see sporadically at home games that were there.

And why not, it was the biggest crowd we've played in front of in a league game since a 1-1 draw with Doncaster in October 1999.

And for anybody who cares the biggest crowd I think we've ever played in front of (and I stand to be corrected) is 6,000 V Cheltenham.

Not so sure it was like a trip to Man Utd or Liverpool. More like an FA Cup 1st round game against Peterborough or somebody.

A lot of it might have to do with the hope and expectation after outplaying and thumping Hampton last weekend. Thats beating 2nd and 1st place now back to back so there must be a similar feel good feeling among the players

Just found this board, never knew there was actually one. I am pretty new to the setup only normally make it down for home games (When I can at least) but yesterday was unbelievable, what a great atmosphere I'm still buzzing from it now. Gonna do my best to make as many games as I can in the future.
Cheers lads, definitely a day in the sun I won't be forgetting!

If that was your first away game I can tell you it is a very steep hill downwards from here.

Many away games involve depressing stadiums in depressing towns with a depressing performances and a depressing  atomosphere.

I don't mean to be a party pooper but didn't want to let you think that sort of thing is a regular occurance.

The last time I had fun anywhere like yesterday was Dorchester in the Cup in 2005.

Thanks for all the sensible replies guys. Really cant be arsed with all these cyber warriors that seem to frequent most other boards. Glad you enjoyed the day and hope you can get into the play offs and a chance to enjoy a few more. Think we will lick our wounds and looking forward to getting back on track at Eastleigh. All the best

I would suggest that the fact that you are being viewed as 'Cup Final' material suggests that you are getting big support and that other clubs\supporters don't think you'll be around in this league very long to sample it.

I'd contrast it with when we used to play Yeovil in the early nineties. There were regularly 2000-3000 there but no one classed it as a big game as, more often than not, they were a pile of crap who'd either be around next season or would be in the division  below if they had really excelled!

Its a backhanded compliment and when people no longer start thinking this when playing you, you have probably found your natural level.

Those supporters should ask your veterans how they viewed it the first season they went to Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Man U etc. Can't imagine they would have viewed it much differently until they realised you were there to stay.

I used to travel away quite a bit when I was much younger and my mates and I still hung around together. I know you have to visit some **** places etc, etc, but that is half the fun-travelling on clapped out old trains and busses to towns where families enjoy bumming each other and they don't get many visitors.

I feel quite nostalgic about those days. I think in the last 10 or so years I've only been to Chichester (?) and Ashford.

The best bit is bumping into people in pubs whose names you don't know, but who you recognise from PVR. Sometimes you can make a good night out of it too with a cheap B&B thrown in.

Who knows, if I can dump the missus I may do it again.
