The programme on Wednesday announced that we will have two reserve teams next season. In addition to the Kent League side we will also have a team in the Surburban League. The team will be under the guidance of Bonze Billings and his wife Sue. Good luck to them although on paper this league does n't look much stronger than the Kent League 2 (see link below). Home matches will be played at Corinthian's.

Woah now im lost

Why 2 Reserve Teams? The last reserve team was basically Corinthains wasnt it? So now we have two both run by Corithians?

And with all due respect, how is a woman incharge of our reserve team? Which one is Welling, Which one is Corinthians and is this a big shambles?

Historically I think you'll find the Suburban league is a much stronger standard than the Kent Leagues reserve divisions.

Agree with Jim

I am guessing but.. is the kent league for the youngsters and the Suburban for the older ones?

Which one wil be used as the feeder reserve team or stronger one? Is it Welling or Corinthians? Seems a bit messy.

I think senior players can play in both. It might be that the Surburban league is mid-week as apposed to weekends in the Kent.

No idea on that one im afraid although JGFC but I believe Corinthians are still amateur so if any decent young players come through on the Corinthian side we should be in postion to snap them up.

Agree it's a bit messy but two reserve sides it beeter than none- which we had 2 years ago. Also hopefully the new academy at Bexley Colege will bear some fruit in the next couple of years.

My point is how is a woman in charge of our reserve team.
Show me a female coach or assistant manager in any football at our level who is a success and i will hold my hands up.
This isnt womens football, its mens football, it isnt park football its conference football.

The bit above suggests shes running it with her husband? now that may be cutting the oranges and washing and ironing  the kit for all i know. I certainly hope its nothing at all to do with team selection and coaching.

Nice to see that stereotypes is still rife in your little world JgFc...

I happen to work with an ex-England International woman footballer, who seems to know more about football than most of the PE teachers here as well. She is also quite possibly one of the best footballers I've ever seen and still, to this day, runs rings round most people. You also seem to missing the small point that there never, to my mind at least, been a female manager at this or any higher or lower level of men's football, apart from when Fisher let one of their youth managers last season for a game.

What I'm suggesting, nay, saying, is until she has been given a chance, you or I or anyone on this board cannot comment on how well she might do until the season starts.

See what I'm getting at?

I am but this is 2009 and it just doesnt happen does it, Women managers do not and have not succeed(ed) in Mens Football at our level.

See what i'm getting at? You could say its being stereotypical etc, maybe so but shes not exactly hope powell or karen walker is she?

If a conference team turned up at PVR with a woman as manager or assistant they would be laughed at.

It surely won't hurt letting her try. If our reserves were full time professionals then there might be reservations but they're not. I've got no problem with the set up.

I concur it doesn't happen...Yet. Give it time, you might see a few more. I agree in principle that it hasn't happened, however hindsight is a wonderful thing and if you re-read how you wrote your previous statement, that's my main gripe. And you're right, I could say it's stereotypical, but I'll just quote you and make my point again...

"The bit above suggests shes running it with her husband? now that may be cutting the oranges and washing and ironing the kit for all i know. I certainly hope its nothing at all to do with team selection and coaching." They won't get the opportunity if feelings such as this still remain, which unfortunately, I believe they will.

I did read recently (I think) Hope Powell may be giving up the England job...Now, considering she's been the international manager for years, there's room to suggest she wont go back to women's league football...If she does leave England, you never know, might see her knocking around in the Men's leagues. And the name Karen Walker rings a bell, can't remember exactly who's she's managed/player for though. My mate would kill me, she's told me enough times!

If we go down the slippery slope of letting women manage then what next?
They'll want to start voting!
Wearing trousers!
Equal pay!

Those suffragettes have a lot to answser for.
