cant understand why knight released obviously there must be a reason but am i right in recalling he was wearing the captains armband on a couple of the pre season games. I thought that mason looked ok but only a squad player rather than a 1st team regular.
I just hope no one else leaves or BEN 281032 could be right, disbelief

Andy has seen that he was a sh1t defender and scouts would identify him as a weak link. Wel done Andy

A central Midfielder and the loan deal could see us quite ok.

Welling manager Andy Ford is set to complete the signing of an experienced midfielder on Thursday.

The Wings boss is desperate to boost his squad and has agreed terms with his target.

"I don't say it until its done and dusted but I've got a good central midfield player coming in," said Ford.

"He has agreed terms - he is a good experienced player, captain material, who at a higher level last year."

To make way for his new signing, and free up funds to bring in other players, Ford has released three players, summer signing Spencer Knight (pictured), trialist Jason Mason and the temperamental Sanchez Ming.

The emergence of Michael Dean has meant Knight is surplus to requirements while Ford feels he has enough cover to allow Ming to leave.

"It's not really a surprise," said Ford. "I''ve got other options in Sanchez's position with Loui Fazackerley, Tony Finn and Jake Hobbs, who has just come on the scene.

"I can't have three people in one position, I haven't got that luxury and I had to make a decision."

Ford is also hoping to bring in defender Steve King, who was previously with Bishop's Stortford, although he faces competition from big-spending Brentwood.

Big spending Brentwood? Where do some of these smaller clubs get the funds from?

I think this Lawson injury is responsible for all these late developments within the squad.

There is a midfielder coming in by all accounts and supposedly a defender sometime during mid August. I would think Fordy is looking for a target man as well which means he has to offload some (Ming, Knight) to make way for another new player.
We all realise that budget constraints are tight and he has to juggle things around a bit to get the players he wants.

If we can get a good spine to the team then we should be ok for next season and try to match or improve on seventh.

Right so this central midfielder was at a higher level last season and is captain material

Beckham? Reo Coker? add in the loan coming in in a couple of weeks and a front man and we will p1ss this tinpot league by 22 points.

Can't say I'm surprised that Knight's gone. He did look short of pace as a fullback. Might have done a good job in midfield though.

Bit surprised he signed him and let him go so quick, but Fordy has his reasons. Let's hope he was right.

The same happened with Robin Trott last season and he got that one right so lets go with his judgement.

Re  :  Robin Trott and Spencer Knight.

In My Humble Opinion, I would state that it was poor judgment by Andy Ford in both cases.

It was accepted in Non League circles that Robin Trott was past his sell by date when we signed him prior to last season.   His poor injury record did not help his fitness either.   Therefore, we should not have signed him in the first place.

In the case of Spencer Knight, a number of Chelmsford City supporters have stated that his best position was as a left midfielder but he was asked by Andy Ford to play at left back which exposed his lack of pace.   This lack of pace was patently obvious to Welling supporters but Andy Ford did not seem to realise this.

I understand that Knight was on contract and I suppose that Welling had to make a compensation payment to him in order for him to walk away from his contract.   If so, an expensive error by Andy Ford especially in view of the limited budget which Andy Ford keeps reminding us that he is having to work with.

Finally, I am concerned that we are signing a central defender (a vital position in the team) on loan but not until the middle of August.   Surely, this position should be filled by a contracted player.   It is normal practice that if a player is on loan to another club, Welling could receive a call on a Friday evening before a game stating that the player is required by his own Club on the Saturday.   This would not appear to be a sound policy as this player will form part of the spine of the team.

John, My man

Have a look at the official site

Three new signings confirmed one being Stev King a centre back, and according to Stortford fans (for whom he played for last season) not that bad.

King did not play against Charlton.

Knight may have been signed on non contract terms for all we know, in which case no compensation would be required.
