Me and Rob go back a very long way, Rob has seven brothers and sisters who are a very close family.
I cant tell you enough of what he has been through just imagine if you have seen some of the horrific pictures in local papers or the news, imagaine what rob and his family had to go through and look at when he was in that hospital in Crete for nearly 4 months. The family were told that Rob would not survive the first 48 hours and if he did he would of been left paralysed or brain dead.
Yes he did wake up paralysed and that was the first day of the long road to his recovery. The fans saw him play against Milwal the other night for your team welling and we saw a very brave young man trying to retrieve what he loves the most just to play a game of footbal. You may say about the budget but if someone like Rob who has done so well and i think we can all judge for ourselves this special human being is not just a strong and good hearted person but he is determined to show others that there is life after horrific injuries and is proud to wear the welling shirt with pride and show he can play a game of football. Rob would tell you all, all he wants is a chance to prove to you, although he may still have a disability, his love for the game is keeping him strong and determinded to keep on going.
PLEASE SUPPORT HUGHESY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking at your profile I can only assume you're Robs mother.
I think all the posts in support of Rob show the level of respect people have for him for what he's achieving. It's a horific story yet also amazing (miraculous) at how Rob is turning things around.
My comment regarding the budget in the other thread has nothing to do with who it is - simply wondering as last I heard the budget had been used up. I think he looked good against Millwall and from what I've heard also in other games, so I really hope this can be a massive turning point for Rob.
Rob has got nothing to prove to anyone I think he has done enough of that over the alst year. When he came on against Erith and Belvedere he changed the game and alot of fans stood up and took notice of him, it was clear from that moment that Rob had ability and Fordy has seen that. Fordy will treat Hughsey as one of the players he will give him no special treatment and Im sure Rob would not want it either. Hughsey will get the full support of the fans and I hope he has a very long and successful career with Welling and whoever after us.

Rob has the determination, courage and desire to do well. But, in my book, it is his mum who is equally as brave to spend all that time beside her son's hospital bed and then, when he has recovered sufficiently, to let him go to do the thing he loves. We sat behind her ( and Rob's sister, or girlfriend - I don't know her status) at the Gillingham game and again against Millwall and you could tell she was very proud but also a mite affeared.

What is his disability, if it is not too rude to ask?
Rob has a massive disability and one I think that has to be brought out to the general public.... It's having me as a supporter cheering him on.
Due to the protective head gear that he has to wear being similar to that of Petr Cech would it be considered rude if I referred to him on the terraces as 'Cech'?
I've got us down as a 6, 1 home win with Andrews as first goal scorer. So if he can just wait until the first goal goes in then he can score as many as he likes as long as it's no more than 5.
Yes I am Rob's Mum,and I am very proud of him and what he has achieved so far.
The papers headline's said from Coma to comeback, the people in the hospital in Greece called him the Miracle man, My family and I are just so glad that we still have him.
I want to thank you all for your very kind word's of support and its only human nature to ask question's on how, what, and were in these circumstances.
I will be happy to answer anything that you would like to know on this story.
Robert is a very private and quite person and on that first evening, We did not even know that Rob was going to your club.
Like most mums I was the last to hear about welling and the move ,Until Rob phoned me and asked for a lift to the ground that day.
I'm afraid Rob cannot drive because of the injuries that he sustained by the attack on him in Malia.
But Rob is determined not to let a disability hold him back.and he is so happy that your club have given him a chance to fulfill this part of his road to recovery.
We already feel at home at welling and this is down to you all.
I think it is fair to say that we all salute his determination to rebuild his life. My view echo's ELB's in that you must have had a horrible time through all this.
My one question is that if Bromley have given him the support that has been suggested, and that all he wants to do is play football, how comes he is a Wing and not a Raven?
Just want to say how brave this young man is there will be so many questions but all i want to say is rob good on ya mate and i will be cheering you on every game you play. Glad you signed for Welling and you will add to the great team we have got already. Good luck.
P.S. Rob was only trialing at Bromley and has decided to go for Welling just to inform you all cheers
Hi Rob's mum. I think it's nice that you are willing to answer any question put to you about Rob. But please, please please be very careful on what you put down as certain things can be taken out of context. A possible option may be to list some of the questions that may be asked and have a page in the match day programme that responds to them. Best regards Trigger.
JUST WANT TO SAY WELL DONE TO ROB SO PROUD OF YOU MATE I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR STORY SINCE DAY ONE. HOW BRAVE YOU ARE AFTER THAT HORRIFIC ATTACK ON YOU LAST YEAR ON JUNE 17TH. I WATCHED THE BBC1 NEWS YESTERDAY AND YOU BROGHT MANY TEARS TO MY EYES AND MY FAMILYS EYES TOO. THE PICTURE OF YOU LEARNING TO WALK AGAIN ALONG THE RAIL WITH HELP JUST MADE ME THINK WOW I AM SO LOST FOR WORDS AND I COULD THINK OF SO MANY BUT THE ONLY WORDS I WANT TO SAY IS:
WELL DONE HUGHESY
A INSPIRATION TO ALL FOOTBALLERS AND SPORTS PLAYERS OUT THERE KEEP ON GOING SON AND GOOD LUCK
I take my hat off to you Maggie, you've been through something that most of us can only imagine. I hope Rob settles in well and it gets his life back on track - he clearly deserves it. I think he will be extremely well respected for his bravery.
If you look beyond the sad story and look at the Football, this is actually a very good signing for us. Well done Hughsey, you could be a big hit here.
Yes ,that's right he memory is quite bad and only sometimes if his reminded he mite remember snippets of those lost years.
We hope it will get better for him in the future ,as it must be very frustrating for him when he is asked, who did you play for before and why don't you remember me etc.
He was the best man at my eldest son's wedding, and cannot remember even being there on that lovely day.
So to jog his memory we play the video and Rob likes to find out about the missing pieces of the jigsaw and hopefully he will put them all together himself one day.
Yeah Mark has got it right us Welling fans really get behind our players that show a drive and determination and our proud to wear the red shirt. Rob clearly has shown that and he will be supported 110% just like every player who shows that commitment.
Maggie can you ask Rob to score a hatrick tomorrow. Or to score the winner.
Maggie Rob may have what you describe as a disability but he is getting out there and doing things that none of us can do.
I really hope that the disability stuff soon goes away from peoples minds and Rob can get on with his life and his career. It must be hard for you, there will always be one or two mindless idiots that will say the wrong thing at a ground and you may hear it. Just bite your lip and go and buy a coffee if that happens and go over to the other stand. They wouldnt say it if you has a t shirt on saying i am Hughesies Mum!
I am sure it wont happen , Welling fans like players with guts and determination who show committment. But away fans will not be in the loop or know Rob's story or how he has bounced back so well from being attacked
Back to Saturday, Winning Goal please Rob and if its a 25 yard free kick sailing into teh top corner against W*king then superb!
Good Luck Maggie, and Good Luck Rob

Welcome Maggie. As you can tell from the comments on this thread, we as Welling supporters like to get behind players that show passion for the game and to the club. Rob and yourself have been through a really traumatic time and we all wish you both the best for the future. Let's hope that Rob makes a full and speedy recovery and he can make an impact right from the start.
PS. - don't let him score more than 5 goals, or else Trigger wont get the result he needs
Sorry to bother you again, could you pass this on to every one you know ,as its my own web site to help victims and there families now and in the future.
It is still under construction as we need a proper web designer to help. so if you know of any one that can help ,as we are very short of funds at the moment but we don't expect it for nothing.
This is very important as there is no help for the victim's and there family's at the moment ,but plenty for the other side if you know what I mean.Join up and join in .
