WSU are holding their first band night on Friday 23 October 2009 in the Clubhouse at PVR and will feature local band Nelly's Heroes.
The band have played numerous gigs in London, the South East and beyond and have evolved into a covers band with a difference interpreting classic somgs in their own way.
Tickets are very reasonably prioced at £4 so lets make this a night to remember.
I Fully Understand That Punk Is The Musical Marmite, And I Hold My Hand Up And Say Your Correct on the above And JGFC's lead Gives Me the Oppotunity to eleborate on the evenings music, and hopefully entice a few more people to come along. As the Guitarist for Nelly's Heroes our Style is an up beat tempo Covers, and yes We Have Punk Influences, As Well As Rock metal N Blues, But If We want to Attract A Wider Audience Then Its Horses For Courses, no Point In Doing A Punk Set To An Unappreciating Crowd, when we originally Spoke To The WSU we gave Our typical Covers set list, That Included.......... Johnny B Goode C'mon Everybody 20th Century Boy Rock n Roll Born To Be Wild Footloose Cocaine Hey Ya Stepping Stone Help Im A Believer etc etc.....A Variety From The 50's Til Present
So Please Dont Be To Hasty and see The PUNK word N Go No!!!
musical differences Aside The Whole Point Of The Evening Helping with the Development for THE WINGS!!!!

Having seen the band in rehearsal I would not classify them as a punk rock band. The strength of the band lies in their ability to put their own interpretation on classic songs rather than being straight note for note covers as played by bands in pubs and clubs up and down the country. In doing this they draw on several musical genres of which punk is but one.
Any band night will appeal primarily to devotees of the particular musical genre. In my opinion Nelly's Heroes blend of musical genres, whilst unlikely to appeal to Sinatra fans, is likely to appeal to fans of punk, rock, and the musically open minded interested in something different.

Have just seen that the band are not charging the WSU , this is a fantastic gesture by Nellys Heros and means the night is a guaranteed earner for the WSU.

I was getting quite excited when I heard you were a punk band and was seriously considering the trip from Surrey. Do you do any punk stuff? I grew up with SLF, the Clash and the Only Ones - I'm a believer is even before my time!
Nice choice Trigger, as THE BLUE DANUBE rocks my BOAT every time, !!!
Ive played my organ a few times in A Flat..!
My dear Patsy, I have lead a very sheltered life but is that comment above rude? My carer says I should not play with people who may be a bad influence on me.
Can someone get mark a parking space outside the ground... to lay down in ala Stafford.
I would like to point out that this refers to Mark in Stafford rather than me being trolleyed in the street. A mistake those who know me are unlikely to make as they've found me dossing in bus stops, front gardens and hedges!
I would suggest a rendition of Swords Of A Thousand Men. Only heard it played in a club once and quite the most lunatic three minutes on a dance floor I've ever encountered...
Could this be advertised in the local press? It might attract more people who maybe have no connection to the club, might encourage some new Wings fans, making it a double winner.......

Great idea for a welling song. Remeber to make it generic to be a song to last through the years. IE if you stick fordy or a player in it would be redundant or need to be changed,
Will it be a reworking of a classic song, like Charlton's Vally Floyd Road (Mull of Kintyre)

From what I've been told the band are not looking to write a Welling anthem, more of a historical snapshot though it may have a catchy chorus which outlasts the relevance of the remainder.
