Below is the story on the nonleaguedaily.com website. Lets just hope it's the latest in a long line of inaccurate news stories on that website.
HOBBS BECOMES A TERRA 04/09/2009
Following on from the news that Steve Claridge had made a dramatic return to Blue Square South club Weymouth, another striker has arrived at the Wessex Stadium.
Jake Hobbs has joined the Terras from league rivals Welling United.
Hobbs (pictured) signed for the Wings after a successful trial with the club during pre-season. He has been with Coca-Cola Championship side Blackpool where he played numerous times for the reserve side and more recently was with Gillingham towards the end of last season.

Surprised at this As I see on the BBC teletext that Steve Claridge has come out of retirement and playing for FREE! for weymouth. I Hope that its not true plus if they got people wanting to play for nothing then cant understand why he'd go. I Applaud steve claridge for doing this and helping the club I Think he started with, Showing Money is no object just the will and want to play and plus a thank you, for without them he wouldn't have be known.
Oh If only Steve Finnan Had not joined pompey. We Can Only Dream!!!

Well that is bizarre and for the first time this season I would say a tad worrying UNLESS Andy has a trick up his sleeve...we wait and see BUT we are very light up front now
As someone on the Weymouth site said...why would someone leave Welling for a team that may or may not be around next week
Anyone know where Jake lives ?, cant see why he would want to travel all that way, also its not what you would say a step up.......could be just paper talk. The Sun had Tottenham signing almost a new team on tuesday morning !..........
Bubbles - Totally agree - he's got fire in his belly, lots of energy alongwith a touch of class
I AM AMAZED AT YOUR COMMENT "J" - I WOULD BE GLAD NOT TO HAVE TO MARK HIM ; HE IS LIKE A CRAIG BELLAMY, A TIGER ALWAYS AT YOU, EVEN IF THE OPPONENT A FOOT TALLER / BIGGER
IF WHEN IN 1 TO 2 YEARS HE PLAYING IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, HE WILL MAKE YOU EAT YOUR WORDS

Quite right, Bubbles. Jake has the potential to be a fabulous player - and he is top scorer for the Wings! I cannot believe that Andy would let him go - especially as he seems to like the lad and his exceptional workrate. Either this story is wrong or there has been a falling out or the club needs to save some dosh. I seem to recall a statement from Andy regarding the lad from Cray stating that he was a similar player to Jake. Has he let Jake go, drafted in this lad and expects to land a big target man?
Or are things at Welling in a more parlous state than we thought because we are waiting anxiously for the Charlie tribunal hearing to be arranged? And why would Jake go to a club which seems to have financial problems? Baffling.

Unless its a geographical move or there has been some fall out I cant see the viability of the move. Jake needs someone to play along side him, maybe the big target man that Fordy has spoken about. If we were to lose either of our front runners I would have thought it would be Lee Clarke as Andy has been more vocalabout his performance.
Lets hope we get some clarification soon, it would be nice if the club made an official statement rather than all this speculation
We are stuffed if he has gone. He may not be technically gifted but he chases many of the lost causes and unlike most of our current team he puts effort in.
Welling United have today signed two new players whilst also releasing the same number. Returning to PVR is midfielder Lee Blackburn and also joining is Danny Spiller a midfielder formerly with Gillingham. Going the other way is Craig Rocastle and Lheureux Menga who have been released. The Wings can also confirm that they have not received any contact from Weymouth regarding Jake Hobbs and thus he is still a Wings player.
That's a great bit of news about Jake. Also great news about Lee Blackburn returning
From Xmas last season thought Lee was superb - amazed he went / not signed on, lots of energy, plays for the team - KNOCKS IN A LOVELY BALL ESPECIALLY CORNERS

Jake and the others would be MENTAL to leave (it could all be bowlacks) , Fordy is severely handicapped by an injury crisis at the moment but continues to bring in players who on paper would be good enough, some do not work out. We are soon to get most of the players back then we will have an extremely healthy and quality packed squad.
Look what he did last year at Welling.Hang in there get your head down and make it happen Jake . Or you may regret it in a few weeks.

My dear "J" well done for expressing your opinion, it's what makes this forum the success that it is. Your opinion has been backed by you actually having seen him play so in that case your point is valid. Questionable, but valid. But never apologise for expressing an opinion when you have reasons for it/them. I on the other hand never have to apologise as my points of view are never questionable and are always based on good grounding.
