Lets not get all teary eyes, He left as a player 3 or 4 times. Yes he was a LEGEND, yes he loves the club and has sweated blood for us. I wouldnt cry if he came back as the Man is Welling and cares. However, he is inexperienced and was always a sandwich short of a picnic.
It would be a massive gamble appointing him as a Manager when we have had 35 applicants. I cannot see the club risking its future in an inexperienced Manager without success at our level .
There is no room for sentamentallity and one day he would be a good choice but he needs to cut his managerial teeth and PROVE he is the man for the job. that time in my opinion is a few years down the line.
As a number 2 to an experienced Manager i would welcome him back 110%

Less than 7% according to the poll on this board does not suggest he is the fan's choice. I think JGFC has called this one exactly right and I would be very surprised to see him land th job. The owners had their fingers burnt with Neil Smith and can't see them going for inexperience again
How did he do in his previous Managerial job at Fisher? CRAP They (His current team Sittingbourne), are 8th from bottom in the league table of Ryman SOUTH.
Abbo is 100/1 to get it in my opinion.

i see where jgfc is coming from but personally i would welcome his appointment - i see where jgfc is coming from but the fact is we will be hiring a rookie up and coming manager anyway so until we see the shortlist we dont know what the calibar of the candidates is and it might come down to a factor such as his passion for the club that sways it
Why not have Abbo down here .. keep proths on and let them bounce off each other this is a nothing season why not take a gamble .... he has got contacts i know that 100% and after speaking to a couple of non league players they love the guy ... and how can we judge him by what he has done at sittingbourne who have gone no where in years ... he will have the same at welling with no money so he wont moan about that will he?
Worth a go i say ... lets be dangerous and see what happens weymouth are gone .... Lewes cant win and there are worse teams then us and everyon keeps saying we will not get relagated so give him a go if it goes wrong so be it but as 90 % of you have said we are to good to get relagated so give him a whirl.
I would go with everyones thinking but the club have let their head rule thier hearts before with appointing Rambo. It wouldnt suprise me to see the phrase again " we have kept it in the family" once more
Abbo will be a big gamble. I am not sure he would be the right choice and with the club being in a relegation battle I think we need someone who has a bit of experience.
Abbo is a Welling legend but I do remember him giving the 2 fingered salute to the Welling fans (in his second spell I think it must have been). I think we signed him back from Enfield and he wasn't getting the goals the fans wanted. Overall though he is a Wings legend but not for me a good manager.
Call Old a cynic but if we have a "YOUNG AND AMBITIOUS MANAGER" would he be more likely to do as he is told by the powers that be and settle for 2nd best as a more experienced would argue his case more?

Abbo not for me.
I agree Spud, same reason my company employ a lot of 18-21 year olds so they can "mould" them .... manipulate more like !!
NEED PEOPLE WITH LOWER END OF FOOTBALL LEAGUE (NOT TOP END LIKE PAUL PARKER) EXPERIENCE - SUCH AS BARRY ASHBY OR ALAN KIMBLE THE FORMERS EBBSFLEET NO.2
