The Wetherspoons beer festival started yesterday.

I tried the Boss Hog, Dragon Hall and Pier Ale all at £1.69 but found the Ruddles at £1.39 a pint the best.

In the New Cross Turnpike the beer festival started yesterday but they had some festival beers in on sunday! Anyway, so far I've tried Raisin Beer, Iron Lady, Boss Hog, Dragon Hall and Pier Ale. Liked them all, especially Raisin Beer and boss Hog. 5 down, 45 to go :D Ruddles Best is ok, but it's something to drink when skint.

I always seem to go for the Ruddles but the Abbott is pretty good too. They had some Abbptt Reserve at the last festival which at 6.2 was a little rude.

I always found that a bottle Carlsberg Special Brew in a pint glass with a bottle of Gold Label Barley Wine with a shot of vodka to finish it off a nice little tipple.

Cheers.

Today i had Everards Old Original, Caledonian Double Dark, Toshis Amber Ale and Galebraiths Mr G's Luncheon Ale. Sorry Bryan, but if i had to pick a winner out of those three, it would have to be out of Caledonian, Toshi's or Mr G's :D So far I've tried 9 festival beers. I think during the last beer festival i managed 22 or something like that. Oh and to anyone here that drinks Ruddles Best in the Turnpike, today you managed to empty the barrel :O For about half an hour they were selling Mr G's for £1.35, before they saw sense and started selling Courage Best for £1.35 instead as a replacement beer for Ruddles.

Adnams Pale Champion Ale will be on tap very soon. I'll probably go in there again on Thursday to see what they have on.

That game also may mark the opening of the Basingstoke Branch of the Welling United Supporters Club after sadly closing the Milton Keynes Branch

I must have just missed the Mr G's offer. I was offered Courage as replacement for Ruddles yesterday.

Really liked the Mr G's. Best one of the festival so far in my opinion.

You just know whats gonna happen now Mark, Daisy gets us in the play offs and we go up. So your travelling increases. These things happen lol. I moved to Birmingham, then we get relegated. So from being well positioned for the Midlands and North all the games were then miles away.

I can just see sods law coming into effect for you. Everyone get ready, we are going up thanks to Mark.

Mr G's is back in the New Cross Turnpike right now, so be quick if you want a pint! They've also got Double Dark, Banana Bread Beer and Brass in Pocket.

Beers tried so far this festival : Mr G's, Exmoor Antler, Original Plum Beer, Iron Lady, Boss Hog, George's Tipple, Brass in Pocket, Coppergate, Toshi's Amber Ale, Dragon Hall, Banana Bread Beer, Double Dark, Bohemian Schwarzbier, Long Eared Owl, Raisin Beer, Pier Ale, Old Original, Morocco Ale and Carolus Amrio. 19 down and 31 to go by Sunday :D

Guilty as charged on all three counts :D Realistically, depending on availability at my local, I'll maybe try another 10 new beers. Out of the beers i was most wanting to try, there are only three left that i MUST have, Ringwood Filly Drift, Newcastle Coffee Porter and Black Panther, so if anyone sees these at any Wetherspoons in Bexley or even a bit further out, then please let me know :D

Stuck with the Ruddles at lunchtime but did have a half of some rascal they have in there at 8%.

Not suprisingly they will only sell in halfs at 99p. Suspect that it will go before tomorrow but if you fancy getting spannered for a very cheap night then tonight would be a good call.

Not too sure how the Newington Butts would be tomorrrow though

8% would mean the Carolus Belgian beer :D Had a half today, good stuff. Oh the Adnams was in today, not bad if a bit weak.

My Friday and Tuesday pub usually serves 3 guest ales along wth courage best and directors. Last night only 2 on offer by the time I got there. Rest In Peace being 5% and TEA. I stuck to the Tea. Just my luck when I was away last week they were serving 9 real ales.

A good selection of beers yesterday. Carolus was back but that won't last. Raisin beer came back and also that low strength beer made by Adnams. 4 or 5 other festival beers as well. My target of drinking all 50 beers was hopelessly optimistic :D So far I've managed 22, and i think I'll surpass the 24 i had in April. Of course festival beers will still be sold up to something like Wednesday, depends on how many barrels they have round the corner.

I didn't like the Carolus. Too syruppy. I did manage a half of all fifty although the last one was two days after the official end of the festival.

The Basingrad festival was most enjoyable. An ideal prelude to a football match!

I tried the Scarecrow which wasn't bad and the Long Eared Owl but didn't think much of it. Also tried one called Red Torpedo which was awful, I only drank half of it.

Had one of the Christmas Ales, Loddon Razzle Dazzle which is a blonde beer and quite nice.

Went to the Bankers Draft in Eltham last week and tried Mr G's and agree its a good brew. First time I have ever drunk a New Zealand brew could be worth a trip if I win the lottery!

Got diverted again afetr the game and they havea couple of heavyweights in at the mo in Abbotts Reserve at 6.5% and Marstons Old Empire at 5.7%.

Of the two the Abbotts is a better pint. Mind you you dont need too many to fall asleep on the settee later!

Tried the Nutcracker in The Wrong 'Un last night. Not bad but went back on the Ruddles.

Back in my youth, My pals and I used to travel vast distances to get a pint of Ruddles and can't believe the Spoons have it £1.35 all week. Excellent value.

Alan-that is very true but the Ruddles county is a better pint but rarely found on draught anywhere

Still I shall continue my search in the spoons after the game

Drink the club house barrel dry first. If any is chucked away they won't get real ale in again

I had a pint of Boddingtons there once and it tasted good, but yes it was expensive.

Saw Eddie Izzard at the O2 the other week and had a pint of Boddington's in the VIP lounge. £4.20 a pint and it came in a plastic glass. It tasted crap too.

I was in one of the suites and ordered a burger at £8.50 which I must say was probably one of the best burgers I've had outside of the USA.

The Buffalo burger in The Burger Bar in Las Vegas between the Luxor and The Mandalay Bay is still the best I've had. Good selection of beers there too.

Went to Dartford yesterday. Tried the Turkey's Delight in The Flying Boat which wasn't bad. Then went to The Paper Moon and had a brew from Nelson's Brewery which was very nice. Also tried Nelson's Blood which was OK but a bit strong and the Nelson's Brown Ale. Then went on to The Great Harry at Woolwich and sampled the Tom Wood's Christmas Cheers which was good.

Best pint of the day though was a pint of Young's Special in The Court House.

Lucky you I spent a few hours on the M4 stuck in traffic. Just glad I came back from Plymouth that way and not M3/M25. See you Boxing Day.

Brave man drinking in Woolwich. Village Blacksmith used to be the place for real ale by the barracks, not sure what its like now or even if its open still.

Village Blacksmith has been boarded up for years sadly. Rosie's in Hare Street is the pub for Real Ale in Woolwich.

The Tramshed also used to be good although Max Splodge slashing his wrist and then healing it could be a bit off putting.

The only reason I ended up in Woolwich was the poxy train service. We were originally going to Denmark Hill but no trains. Went to Dartford instead and coming home wanted a Bexleyheath train but as there weren't any we thought we'd go to Woolwich where you can normally get a cab easy enough. Big mistake. No cabs no buses but thankfully my lovely daughter was visiting her Nan in Woolwich so got a lift home from her.
