Hmmm - I think the clue was in the glowing reference to Lee made by young Barry Hobbins in the recent Kentonline article. I think the word "enthusiastic" was mentioned - an oft-voiced criterion. Also a known quantity? He is a smashing chap but I still think it is too early for him. But, presumably, a win against Lewes on Saturday would do him no harm. Hmmmm.

Mr Protheroe himself may not feel the time is right, but if he's asked, he would have to give the most positive of answers. In my mentally unstable opinion I believe he needs to prove himself as a good no.2 before going that step above.
We come back to Barrie saying that 7 or 8 of the applicants have managed at our level and above. the Manager MUST come from those or be a manager with experience below.
Anyone else (Number 2 etc elsewhere ) WILL NOT have the experience to deal with this situation never mind take us forward.

I think that Lee has obviously made an impression. But what has made him change his mind about the job, and is there a possibility that he will change it again? The one thing in his favour is that he is involved in the game and still plays. I wonder how many candidates have been out of the non-league game for more than a year?
We need somebody with good contacts who can bring quality players to the club purely because they know and want to play for the manager. But will the budget stretch to that, and will the club wish to appoint somebody who will challenge them about the budget available if he knows he can get good players but not on the money that the club says it can afford?

You did not read my post carefully. I did not say that I wanted Protheroe as manager. The fact is that I do not want him to be 1st team manager. I simply highlighted the fact that Protheroe must have made contacts from playing at clubs such as Canvey(when they were in conf), Gravesend and Aldershot. The point I was making is that just because a person has contacts it does not necessarily mean they would be a good manager. If we picked another inexperienced applicant but who had contacts they might not be the right choice either. For example, Kimble has more experience as a number 2 than as a manager. I believe that the next manager should have experience first and contacts second.
As an aside. If we do choose Kimble will Proths remain as number two as he played under Daish & Kimble in 2005-2006.
Exactly. Whose to say that if we get another inexperienced manager that their contacts would work either?
I know people were let down by Ford but I still think we need experience rather than inexperience. I know inexperience worked with Pennock but it has not worked on numerous other occasions in the past twenty years when we have selected a young manager.
I have absolute no knowledge if this is true and this is just my guess
I reckon we may see Alan Kimble and John Beck team up, Im sure Kimble played under John Beck at Cambridge and Beck has just left Histon as coach so I reckon Beck could come in as assistant to Kimble.
As I say just a thought
