This impasse cannot be allowed to continue.  If Dartford demand a fee either pay it or don't pay it and leave Jamie at Dartford and move on in the search for a manager.
I see Dartford's manager has gone public on BBC Radio Kent.

What has the Dartford manager said Bertie?

As I have said this could end up being a very expensive appointment instead of the cheap one the board were hoping for

It is on BBC TV regional sports news South East text having, presumably, been broadcast on Radio Kent previously. You may be able to find it on the internet.

Interesting read Bertie - in summary - most see Jamie as their best midfield player - wish him the best at Welling but don't think that they should just roll over and let him go as he was a on 2 year contract. Also that their chairman knew nothing about it.

Seem quite a reasonable bunch - we would feel the same way if a conference side came in for one of ours.

Something tells me that if we have to put our hands in our pocket that this could all fall flat. Having said that I cant see the deal being undone as I dont think Dartford would want to stand in his way, but if it does we are going to look pretty stupid going back to the likes of Alan Kimble.

The more I read of this the more convinced I am that we have done the cheapest option of a good player who could maybe be a good manager. Despite all the coaching qualifications, contacts etc he is still unproven and is starting at a reasonably high level ie one above his own club.

I still wish the bloke all the best assuming we get him.

I think, on the whole, Dartford fans are a reasonable bunch.  Where I used to live, the road was divided between Darts fans and supporters of the then Bexleyheath and Welling.  Most of the successor Bexley United fans there went over to Dartford when the Bexley club folded - and I was almost tempted (breaks into cold sweat).

Always rivalry but always friendly. And, quite frankly, if another club came in for one of our contracted players (assuming that Jamie is under contract) we would want some form of dosh.  I reckon we should let Dartford keep our bit of dosh from the KSC tie.  Of course, they could be cute and keep his player registration and let him become our manager!

Bertie i agree with you on the whole they are great fans and have put up with crap for years.

However for a large handful to be sla gging us off and calling us underhand etc is bang out of order.

If you look at the facts.

Would Welling have announced Jamies appointment and Thanked Dartford for allowing him to come back ??

Anyone who thinks this is Wellings fault is a lunatic, theres too many cooks (or should that be ****s) at Dartford.

It aint looking good is it. I know my opinion is a bit late, but I am not that sure about Jamie`s appointment anyway.
I loved him as a player, but is he ready for this. We may as well have stuck with Lee Protheroe if we wanted a young INEXPERIENCED manager.
I hope I`m wrong (please) but this appointment isn`t going to work.
Good luck anyway Jamie. Prove me wrong!

I agree. We might as well have given the job to Proths or an old player like Mooro.

I think the major criteria for getting the Welling job is how cheap the potential manager will be. What a joke!

Well I disagree

I think Jamie is better placed than Moore or Proths

It is contacts/Coaching and playing ability

ON PAPER it looks like an excellent signing

Of course football isnt played on paper BUT ALL Managers HAVE to start somewhere

We may have ourselves a real gem....we dot know...I think he starts at a better point than Neil Smith

Dartford will NOT want a player that doesnt want to be there....we will get the man I think but???

Yeah the biggest gripe for me was they went for the cheap option.

However I will back Jamie 110% as he deserves our support. The one thing I will say though is if this appointment does go tits up could this be the end of The Hobbins reign. Im not starting a witch hunt merly asking the question.

JGFC,

you have made many good points in my time on this forum, but saying that i must be a lunatic for thinking that this could not be Wellings fault why didnt one of the Hobbins get on the dog and bone, or send an email or get a 96 and speak to someone from Dartford who could say yea go ahead, we know the deal all good from are end sweet as a nut new manager and no problems.

I see this as lazy and sloppy on the Hobbins part, i dont think Jamie knows how much off a task this will be if he does get the job - at present best player out King - Cracknell 8 weeks - no middle of the park at all now Blackburn gone - up front we have a few shockers ( lets be honest someone tell me im wrong ) - we have beat no one of any ability this year we just scrapped past Lewes and we have now turned into a circus NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Mark,

Jamie must see the team play, before going straight in and putting himself in there ( i agree he is better then what we have ) but what gives it away he is wanting to noe be a manager - do this get as a few wins away from relegation zone - then have a game!

evening ladies gentlemen, and lunatic thats you trigger, just returned from milton keynes .
i am surprised at jamie day being the prefered choice but not disappointed, but do have concerns as to whether another novice manager is the way forward.
mr hobbins has cut the budget ,not found a new sponsor, and wants to give jaime a chance.
smith and nethercott a joke.
ford with dack a good number two most of us were happy.
ford with inexperienced number two ****ing diaster.
protheroe caretaker manager, no experience not mr hobbins choice, then goes for jamie.
decisions from the top do take clubs down.

Dizzie i dont agree with the Club that Jamie is the best choice at this time
I will like every other Welling fan get right behind him
As for Lunatics, it was more intended to be directed at Dartfords Fans, Chairman and Manager.

Welling have been signing and selling players for years. If they were not told by someone that Jamie was free to go. they would not have announced it.

The amateur behaviour here is from Dartford, And their fans believeing this is Welling tapping up Jamie and ignoring the procedures. Sorry thats simply NOT gonna happen so i will support our Chairman/GM over theirs.

It is a circus you a totally right.

Initially I thought it was a risky move, but I'm coming round to the idea that Jamie is a good choice- we get an above average midfielder and a young, albeit inexperienced, manager who has a UEFA 'A' coaching badge who has lots of contacts and has helped to run Charlton's academy.

Just think of what we could have saved, in all meanings of the word, if we had coughed up a bit more for his salary when, I guess, we may have had a chance of signing him before Dartford got him.  But then I don't know anything about the state of the WUFC budget.

Even so, I now have strong fears that this move could collapse if Dartford are unrealistic about the level of compensation - and neither club will really benefit from that.

Should we not be looking at the longer term impact this appointment may have. I think Jamie was and probably still is an excellent player. He always showed passion and commitment when he played for the Wings something that appears to be lacking with many at the moment. Hopefully he will install his passion in the existing team members pretty quickly.

Also what impact and input will he have in the Academy. He is experienced in this field and may well develop players within the Academy and bring them on. With his knowledge of acadamies could ours turn out to be a breeding ground for first team players. This is obviously something that will not happen overnight and will be longer term. Is this something that has been overlokked by all but the Hobbins?

Damn good point Bee Cee.  We used to produce very good players, perhaps this was indeed a motivating factor for Barrie and Barry.

No

This is not, If this was the case Jamie would have returned when we set the Academy up or when Dack walked out.

This is just something that may fit into place. You have to remember we havent got the commercial dept to really improve the first 11 without Daisy having the funds to bring in top coaches or improve facilitys for the Academy.

It will help, Jamie is thoroughly qualified and skilled at producing Youth players and has UEFA A Badge. But it wont have been in their plans, as we simply do not have the infrastructure in place.

Jamie is here to do the business in the first team. Keith is also an extremely well qualified coach who works with the first 11 and the Academy.

Its a round about way of saying you dont appoint a manager who will be good for the Academy when you have a world class coach there already.

Yep, Keith is a good coach and a nice chap.  But what's to stop Jamie giving him a hand too?

Trying to get us out the Shyte for one.
Having a young family for 2

He will talk to Keith for sure. As he should.

Im worried by Dartfords Statement....

Have they blocked his registration? And we have to tell Jamie he cant play for 18 months but can manage?

Can't see the club appointing Jamie on that basis.  They obviously want a manager and a player, that is what they stressed in their original statement.  And surely compensation would not just be paid for him to become purely a manager?
