Steve King was our best player up until he got injured at Havant. I know Parky and Andrews have formed a good partnership but to let King go would be madness. In my opinion what do others think?

I may be in the minority but I still believe that Jack's most effective position is in midfield even though he has generally played very well in central defence during Steve King's absence. Steve and Graeme Andrews had formed a terrific partnership up to the time of Steve's injury and along with Charlie had been our best players over the season. I hope that their partnership will be restored and that Jamie gives Steve a bit of time to get back to full fitness before making his decision.
Im sure this is more a case of trying to motivate and get the best out of Steve, and some creative journalism, than anything else. Everyone was playing for their future when Day took over. As long as King is given a few games, and not judged on his first game for a month, then he and Welling will be fine, he is more than good enough. This allows the option to play Parkinson in midfield, and also means we arent short at centre-half if a injury/suspension comes along ... or god forbid, Colchester do come in for Parkinson.

When whitnells back he will have clarkey and himself in the middle , take your pick from the wideys on the flanks. Ryan can cover in midfield as can Sambrook. What we need is a right back first and foremost. IMHO

Kevin, if they pay the asking price then Daisy will have the money to go and get a right back and another striker and then he will keep King and Andrews at the back.

I think JgFc was referring to Jack Parkinson, Bubbles. He is being watched by Colchester - and a few others. Jack is quite a versatile player - I would not be surprised if he could be converted to play as a striker as well, such is his talent.
As for Steve King, I think he has become a superb player who will soon demonstrate that to Daisy. He must be kept at all costs - especially if Jack goes in the January transfer window.

Ressues didn't have a fixture on Saturday according to the Suburban League website. Which begs the question why did we have a bench of four on Saturday.

I would imagine Daisy is still trying to balance the budget and see if he can free up money where it's needed.
Even if King is not on a contract he would need paying when he does play.
Last 7 league games with only 2 goals conceded shows defenders aren't a priority at the moment. When Sambrook is fit we have a very good right back and cover until he is.
I do like King - but can he play centre mid? I feel on certain games we need height and physical presence in midfield. Someone who can out muscle the challenges and lay off some wide balls. Finn and Loui have the potential to tear a lot of sides apart.
steve king should be retained at all cost, cover for andrews and parkinson,or for the option of playing three at the back. on the subject of finn and fazza there contribution to games is nowhere near enough, and if the rumours are true they are at the top end of wage bill what they contribute is ****. read last sundays non league paper finn,s own words i dont do tackling he got that right. i know me onions that,s shallot.
Steve is a better centre back than Jack, in the air & on the deck, makes some great & inportant tackles in & around the boxs. Also can go up for cornors & free kicks. Remember he has been MOTM many times,as well as being player of the mouth, he & Charlie have held us together before his injury. As for Jack he can move back into midfield with clarkie, with Faz & Fin on the wings.
Main role of striker ?? too score goals, Finn doesnt get many. Main role of winger ?? too put crosses in for strikers to score goals, Finn doesnt put crosses in.
Seriously, watch Faz and Finn and you'll be amazed at how many times they get into the final third or to the byline and dont do what you would expect as standard.
They both have something of the "flatters to deceive" about them for me, and although great players to have, if they are on top top money then I think we can get better value somewhere else in the not too distant future ...

That was intelligent of him to admit that in a widely read newspaper wasn't it. Opposing players will just think that Finn won't tackle them and run right past him, as he certainly isn't going to do anything other than give them a funny look, in the hope it might confuse them or something!
Oh and i would have to disagree with what has been said elsewhere in this thread about Finn and Faza. I think they put in a lot of effort in the final third, beat defenders and put in a decent amount of good crosses.
Lost most games when King at back.Few good games but in genral not as good as Jack or Graham, but does have more of a physical presence. Is this enough though?
Agree with Kevin that both our wide players "flatter to deceive" and don't produce enogh during games. I think they are luxury players and having both in the starting XI is one luxury too far in my opinion.
agree, have an element of Orlando Smith about them, skill, pace, trickery, but without sufficient end product, crosses mean goals ... Faz cuts inside too often and Finn is just selfish. Simples.
Finn has played well recently. Him and Whitnell have been missed. If he was perfect he'd be in the Premiership! Faz has taken awhile to get going after injury but the signs were more promising second half against Worcester. Expect he'd prefer to play on the right but like the way the wingers swap during the game. I think they deserve some praise rather than too much negativity. Shouldn't think there are too many better pairs of wingers in this League and our form speaks for itself.
As long as they benefit us they are a plus. Completely agree if you had players playing people off the park from the flanks, they wouldnt be here.
Did think Loui was playing out of position against worcester he was almost wing back some times then steaming forward at others. he never stopped running for us. Get behind him.

Thought i would mention that King played tonight. He was on for the first half and was substituted at half time. He played quite well in bad conditions.
King was our best defender before getting injured. If Daisy needs to see him play then why wasn't he there last night?
Talk of him going is beyond belief. If we get rid of players like that there's no hope for us. The only way I'd let him go is as a swap for a 30 goals a year proven striker.
Daysy was there along with Barry Ashby and Dean Frost, sitting in the stand, along with some first team players.
In that case why was there not a senior member of the management team on the bench egging the lads on. The Croydon bench was shouting all night long but hardly a murmor from our bench. I realise this is classed as a so called mickey mouse cup and the majority of the players were from the reserves but surely for such a match they deserve the expertise of the first team bench.

Spitey, cant agree on this occasion about players swapping wings. One if right footed, the other left footed, doesnt take a genius to work out which should therefore be on which wing.
The far greater percentage of goals result from crosses from the by-line/behind the back four of the opposition. The opposition are therefore running back towards their own goal and the probability of own-goals, corners, deflections, etc etc is much greater. This isnt as easy to exploit if you have a left footer on the right wing who naturally will want to cut inside all the time.
Earlier in the season Hurrell was skinning the opposition right-back time and again in the first half of a home game, only to be moved to the opposite flank. You could see the look of relief on the right-backs face straight away.

I think they wanted to have a proper look at all of the players from the stands and discuss them/ assess them. They cant do that on the bench or at pitch level as well as they can from the stand.
If we wanted to win the game we would have thrown in a few other first teamers.
We have just played that game as we had to and had a look at the reserves, on that basis a thoroughly productive night for the club where those on the fringes have had a chance to earn another look or be involved on the bench.
On that note if we are one or two short on the bench, we simply take the BEST reserve player in the position we want to cover and have them on the bench EVERY TIME. First team is priority and having an empty space on the bench is unacceptable and p1ss poor preperation. Failing that pay Dean Standen £20 a week to sit on the bench.

Yeah i saw Daysy as well before the match walking along the side of the pitch chatting to someone on a mobile.
Had a look on the Welling website, and they took yesterdays result so seriously that the ONLY place it's mentioned is on the results and fixtures page and they haven't even bothered to include the result or attendance. Yep, safe to say the club are relieved to be out of this one :D
Yesterday was the first time I'd ever seen the reserves!
