According to their site and comments on BSS forum Lewes are at the High Court on Wednesday as HMRC are looking for a winding up order. Seems they have been paying off the debt at £10K a month, and if I have read it right they still owe £48K of the original £110,000 that was owed.
Hope they go bust, they bought this league. I really do.
The teams that buy the leagues and dont manage their finances and who then dont give a toss about the business they dont pay... should just be wound up.

I feel fine for the people that got them into trouble - they deserve all they get. It is the innocent supporters that I feel sorry for. Sure they enjoyed the good times but they had no control over the club's spending. Hopefully they can come up with a way to save the club.
That just gives every team a get out. Oh it wasnt us it was the chairman. In that case.
Lets get Barrie and Barry to sign every mercinary there is on £1000 a week that every other non league club wants. THEN when weve won the league, If they do the business in the Conference then gates will pay the wages ... IF they start doing rubbish, release them all (they dont sign contracts as no one else will pay them the dosh). Then when you get relegated and cant pay debts, just say the chairman has left and get away scot free and sod everyone.
Quite simply there has to be a proper punishment for this sort of thing, its happened far too often. To be less than hard on clubs like this just lets others continue to do it.
We can all list 5 or 6 clubs that have bought leagues at our level then pleaded poverty and not paid debts or paid pennies in the pounds a season or two later. Some have even done it more than once!
The club transgressed, let the club pay a high price or lets all do it!
If you feel sorry for the fans, then they should oppose any stupid spending and demand to see that the lunatics in charge have the funding before risking or ruining their club, Supporters trusts and supporters associations would need to do this. Wage Caps should be brought in as a percentage of turnover the year before by the league and the FA.

Does Hornchurch qualify as one of these clubs JGFC?
I do accept what you say. However if Welling were sold to irresponsible owners who embarked on a spending spree and then it all went belly up - I doubt I would be calling for the club to go out of business - I doubt you would either. I would hope we would look for a way to rescue that club
I dont have a lot of sympathy for clubs that go under to the HMRC as like every business they should make provision.
Yes I feel for the fans but I also feel sorry for the small creditors who got screwed over and will no doubt get the square root of nothing once they relaunch again ala Dover
I am pleased to see on the Lewes website that they have paid off their outstanding debt to HMRC in full and their immediate future is no longer in doubt.
As Kings Lynn supporters must now know, the fans are the chief sufferers when clubs go to the wall and as we at Welling know at most clubs the fans are able to have little influence over how their clubs are run. It is the many that suffer for the mistakes of the few.
I sincerely hope that the likes of Weymouth, Merthyr and Halesowen all come through the financial problems they've had this season and that no other senior clubs go under particularly bearing in mind the current lack of fixtures due to the weather.
