Looks set to be released by pompey hes 34, money would be no object to him he must have potloads. He will probably be doing coaching badges and trying to get into media.

Wouldnt hurt to approach him?

Remember players have done this before... Andy Gray etc at Cheltenham and Merson at Tamworth.

Depends on how often he played for Pompy last year. If regular, there's nothing to say he won't think he can do a job at one of the new clubs. Think it'll be too much of a drop for him as well.

The thing is if hes going to pursue new things like Media and Coaching, dropping down will give him the time and keep him playing. As i said players have done it before. And he is a Welling legend. Barron came back at the end of his career too.

True, suppose he hasn't set his stall out has he? Think it'll be more coaching, I'll be shocked if he does media, never known him to be the first to be interviewed!

Cup Final to away at VCD in pre-season. I suppose that stranger things have happened. I suspect he will find a place a few divisions higher than us, although it would be great to have him back.

Obersteller is better than Finnan. He wouldn't get a look in smile

I wonder what will happen at VCD now as it appears that they have been chucked out of the Rymans and will have to go back to the Kent League.

Steve Finnan is NOT a Welling "legend" I hate that word - possibly the most over used word in football.

Ray Burgess, Nigel Ransom, Gary Abbott and God are Welling legends.

Possible candidates - Stuart White, Duncan Horton, Terry Robbins, Phil Handford, Rambo and a few others but most definitely not Steve Finnan.

We made a few quid from him (and credit to him and the club for that) but that is not qualification for being a "leg-end"

If what VCD have said is right and their registration was in time and the ground improvements are made before an 'agreed ' deadline then surely the FA has no alternative - it has to reinstate them in the Ryman.

Failure to reinstate will mean that their best players together with their most promising young players will go elsewhere - the Kent League will hold no attraction for them in terms in terms of continued development and progression to higher levels of the game.

Anyone that has gone on to make the club over 100k and win a Champions League medal and play in the world cup is a Legend to me. As a footballer Burgess couldnt lace his boots.

There are a few proper Legends

Barron, Abbo, Bartley, Robbins,

And a few that come into the Fondly remembered Welling players.

If you look into the meaning of the word Legend then in this case it fits Steve Finnan.

J O is a left back and S F is a right back - have both

Tom,

As a footballer very few ex Wings would come close to Steve (you should see what he does in training) Finnan. As I said I am very grateful for his short spell at Welling and the revenue we earned off the back of it.

Ray Burgess and Nigel Ransom were not even the best players in the Welling teams they represented by some distance (they would quite probably tell you the same thing themselves)

However "legend" status doesn't (in my opinion) come down to purely football ability and/or money.......playing over 1,000 games for the same club at all different levels of the game most certainly qualifies for legendary status.

To some extent i agree. I think it says more about Burgess and Ransom as loyal people. Ray was just a busy spoiler, nigel was a stopper. I still think for the 100k we got and what he went on to achieve and the publicity he gave Welling around the world it is a tad harsh on "Virus" to deny him Wings Legend status.

Whether he is a legend or not, he will bring much needed publicity to the club and hopefully attract more fans on saturdays.
