Actually, the offer is £1.19 for Bishop's Finger, Pedigree, Spitfire and Hobgoblin.
They've got Hobgoblin on draught in the Crook Log Carvery at the moment. Very nice pint and they've also got London Pride. Each at £2,40 which isn't too bad.

The Great Harry has got to be one of the worst Wetherspoons going. they don't even have a Monday Club. It's on par with the Greenwich one.
The last time I was there, there was a big crowd of Eastern Europeans who started fighting each other. Good entertainment until the bottles started flying.  

A little further from home, if you are ever in Madrid, I can thoroughly recommend the Ceverveza Naturbier brew pub.

Was a welcome diversion before and after that pile of toss some of you may have had the misfortune to watch on ITV on Thursday night!

Neither do I but it would have been preferable to that shambles!

Did the North Kent Wetherspoons pub crawl today.
Tried Adnams Ghost Ship in the Flying Boat and another called 1965. Ghost ship was lovely but wasn't keen on the 1965.
Had one from the Cottage Brewery called Nelson's Ale in the Paper Moon. Don't think this was on the beer festival list but it was really lovely.
In The Furze Wren I had one called Summer somethin but I don't think this was on the list either and was instantly forgetable.
Had the Easy Weasel in The Wrong 'Un which was a nice pint. They also had the Srilankan beer there but thought better of it.
Finally in The Turnpike I had  HB Clarks Straight Flush which wasn't bad and another called Ginger Hare which was vile. Tasted too much of Ginger and if I want ginger beer I'll have the Crabbies.

What a great job that must be. Almost as good as a bed tester on night work.

 Thank you Alan - I have remained silent on this beer thread but am delighted and relieved to see the names of the beers here. Not surprised that Summer was instantly forgettable - what sort of a name is that for a real ale

Its only for the benefit of other Wings supporters who enjoy a good pint that we can point each other in a suitable direction and what obvious bargains there are to be had even if it not always financial.

Enjoy-there are some very nice boozers in York and £9 is a bargain for an overnight job. Travel lodge does what it says, you get a bed and a shower,what more do you want?

On a seperate note LIDL were doing a Shepherd and Neame beer called Autimn blaze at £1 per bottle at the weekend. Not bad 4% and at £1 per bottle good value. Only noticed on Sunday guys and I was lucky to get thr last few.

Will be ineteresting to see if they have anything in for this weekend although the beer festival at the turnpike will still be on I think

Thought I would let you good folk know that I have had a pleasant time visiting the York Brewery today. Sampled 4 of the 6 ales on offer to leave room for some more refreshment tonight. We must get back into the Conference Premier so I can visit York again. I have never seen so many  pubs serving real ale. Back to reality tomorrow as return to London and the extortionate prices in the south. COYW

Didn't have you down as an ale man. York Centurion Ghost is a good drop and Yorkshire Terrier is not bad either. 

 

To all beer drinkers.

I'm not here to knock beer, but to anyone that has lost their sence of taste then 'beer' is a lovely tipple.

For those of you that admire a decent looking beverage in a glass who doesn't mind the horrible colour then I'm sure 'beer' is just great.

And for anyone that favours a flat, boring drink then I too would recommend 'beer'.

But for anyone that admires a proper drink... a man's drink... then it's quite simple. Go to the bar and request a pint of good old 'Carling Cold'.

Thanks Alan-they seem to be gearing down the strength of the beer, last years Christmas ale was 7%.

Still I always believed in Rudolph

Not a lot of the cheap beer on display in the Welling branch and even less now that I've got my quota. I don't think there'll be much left after today unless they've got more stock out back.

The Masterbrew is on the end of the last aisle near the other beers.

The Rudolph's Reward is not where the other beers are but in the middle aisle right down the end on the right, before the cold meats.

Both beers are in packs of 8.

They've had it before and it's very nice, especially at that price.

I remember when Fosters was first introduced in this country. It must have been about 79 or 80.

My Aussie brother-in-law was over here at the time and we went for a drink over Walthamstow. Everyone was trying Fosters except him. He hated the stuff. On my trips to Oz I've only ever seen it in the supermarkets. It's akin to what we thought of Watney's. 

The other famously advertised Aussie lager was Castlemain. The ad said "Australians wouldn't give a four X for anything else". Well, none of the Aussies I met had even heard of it.

VB, Coopers, Cascade, Crown and Toueys were my favorites.
