Bugger, didn't see the Young's. I got a couple of cases of Bishop's though.
Wetherspoons beer festival starts again on Wednesday and includes Young's Ramrod on draught.

Actually, the offer is £1.19 for Bishop's Finger, Pedigree, Spitfire and Hobgoblin.
They've got Hobgoblin on draught in the Crook Log Carvery at the moment. Very nice pint and they've also got London Pride. Each at £2,40 which isn't too bad.

I'm looking forward to the Wetherspoons Beer Festival, and us all disagreeing with what the best pints are :D Had a look on the official website at all 50 beers, and there are plenty of great beers to try as usual, even one from Sri Lanka!! It would be good if we can post what festival beers we've seen in whichever pub, wether we've tried them or not. It tips people off as to what beers are available in the area. I know that each pub is supposed to sell all 50 different beers, but it never quite works out that way :O Roll on Wednesday :)

It's funny but the only time i seem to go in the Great Harry in Woolwich is during a festival.

The Great Harry has got to be one of the worst Wetherspoons going. they don't even have a Monday Club. It's on par with the Greenwich one.
The last time I was there, there was a big crowd of Eastern Europeans who started fighting each other. Good entertainment until the bottles started flying.

Never had a problem with either the Great Harry or the Gate Clock, both very good pubs. No trouble in either of them. Good staff in both to :) I also particularly like the food in the Gate Clock! The beer is kept well in the Clock and the Harry. Probably the first pub I'll drink a festival pint in next week will be the Harry.

A little further from home, if you are ever in Madrid, I can thoroughly recommend the Ceverveza Naturbier brew pub.

Was a welcome diversion before and after that pile of toss some of you may have had the misfortune to watch on ITV on Thursday night!

Just went back to Lidl's to check and picked up the last 8 bottles at £1 per bottle.

Still plenty of other stuff and a fair few cases of Youngs still left at £1.29

Did the North Kent Wetherspoons pub crawl today.
Tried Adnams Ghost Ship in the Flying Boat and another called 1965. Ghost ship was lovely but wasn't keen on the 1965.
Had one from the Cottage Brewery called Nelson's Ale in the Paper Moon. Don't think this was on the beer festival list but it was really lovely.
In The Furze Wren I had one called Summer somethin but I don't think this was on the list either and was instantly forgetable.
Had the Easy Weasel in The Wrong 'Un which was a nice pint. They also had the Srilankan beer there but thought better of it.
Finally in The Turnpike I had  HB Clarks Straight Flush which wasn't bad and another called Ginger Hare which was vile. Tasted too much of Ginger and if I want ginger beer I'll have the Crabbies.

Thank you Alan - I have remained silent on this beer thread but am delighted and relieved to see the names of the beers here. Not surprised that Summer was instantly forgettable - what sort of a name is that for a real ale

Bubbles, I know how much you and Chelwing enjoy reading them.

Its only for the benefit of other Wings supporters who enjoy a good pint that we can point each other in a suitable direction and what obvious bargains there are to be had even if it not always financial.

Now be a good boy and run back to your bottle of Tizer

Greetings one and all, am in York at the moment (Travelodge 9 quid a night deal) and have already been sampling some very nice ales. No idea what they are but just glad my hotel is in the centre.

Enjoy-there are some very nice boozers in York and £9 is a bargain for an overnight job. Travel lodge does what it says, you get a bed and a shower, what more do you want?

On a seperate note LIDL were doing a Shepherd and Neame beer called Autimn blaze at £1 per bottle at the weekend. Not bad 4% and at £1 per bottle good value. Only noticed on Sunday guys and I was lucky to get thr last few.

Will be ineteresting to see if they have anything in for this weekend although the beer festival at the turnpike will still be on I think

The beer festival ends on Sunday 14th November so another 2 weeks yet.

Makro are doing a reasonable deal starting this Wednesday. Marstons Head Brewers Choice for a little over £14 a case. You get 4 boxes of 4 different ales. Pedigree, Burton Bitter, Old Empire and the lovely Oyster Stout. It works out at just over £1.17 a bottle.

They're also doing a Jennings selection and a Wynchwood selection at the same price.

Another good deal is 24 X 500ml cans of Bombadier for a little over £21 which works out at 88P a can. OK if you don't mind tinned beer.

I might pop down and stock up for Xmas.

Thought I would let you good folk know that I have had a pleasant time visiting the York Brewery today. Sampled 4 of the 6 ales on offer to leave room for some more refreshment tonight. We must get back into the Conference Premier so I can visit York again. I have never seen so many  pubs serving real ale. Back to reality tomorrow as return to London and the extortionate prices in the south. COYW

Didn't have you down as an ale man. York Centurion Ghost is a good drop and Yorkshire Terrier is not bad either.

I am not a big drinker and don't have any if I am travelling (even by train) but do like a decent real ale. Had the Terrier at the Brewery along with Guzzler and two others. Luckily for me the Brewery was less than 10 minutes from my hotel. As I said above I could not believe the number of real ale pubs in York. The chap conducting the tour also told us that a lot of the youngsters up there are changing from Lager to proper beer and that many of the wine bars are installing a hand pump.

To all beer drinkers.

I'm not here to knock beer, but to anyone that has lost their sence of taste then 'beer' is a lovely tipple.

For those of you that admire a decent looking beverage in a glass who doesn't mind the horrible colour then I'm sure 'beer' is just great.

And for anyone that favours a flat, boring drink then I too would recommend 'beer'.

But for anyone that admires a proper drink... a man's drink... then it's quite simple. Go to the bar and request a pint of good old 'Carling Cold'.

Popped into the Turnpike after the game on Sat. Good set of beers on but had a couple of pints of the Kinggoblin (no jokes please) from the Hobgoblin brewerey.

Cracking pint at £1.85 but at 6% you didnt need too many to fall asleep on the couch

Not really part of the thread but information for other halves who complain about you drinking real ale.

Went to the dentist yesterday and according to him (a real ale drinker) some real ales contain flouride. Flouride is good for your teeth. Therefore by drinking real ale you are looking after your teeth.

Thanks Alan-they seem to be gearing down the strength of the beer, last years Christmas ale was 7%.

Still I always believed in Rudolph

Not a lot of the cheap beer on display in the Welling branch and even less now that I've got my quota. I don't think there'll be much left after today unless they've got more stock out back.

The Masterbrew is on the end of the last aisle near the other beers.

The Rudolph's Reward is not where the other beers are but in the middle aisle right down the end on the right, before the cold meats.

Both beers are in packs of 8.

Morrisons in Erith are selling "Piddle In The Hole"  from  The Wyre Piddle brewery for £1.00 a bottle, its only 3.6% but well worth a try. I guess they will be doing the same deal in the Welling branch but i have not been in there recently.

Just tried Rudolph's Reward. Nice and hoppy.

It says on the label: -

This 4.0% ale is a light chestnut ale with a fruity nose. The spicy notes of this festive ale harmonise to leave a delightful refreshing hoppy finish.

I must admit to enjoying a real ale in my youth but my favourites were

Youngs Special, London Pride or if feeling a little risky - Young's Winter Warmer

A well served pint of Bass was always nice

Couldn't cope with the variety now days.

I remember when Fosters was first introduced in this country. It must have been about 79 or 80.

My Aussie brother-in-law was over here at the time and we went for a drink over Walthamstow. Everyone was trying Fosters except him. He hated the stuff. On my trips to Oz I've only ever seen it in the supermarkets. It's akin to what we thought of Watney's.

The other famously advertised Aussie lager was Castlemain. The ad said "Australians wouldn't give a four X for anything else". Well, none of the Aussies I met had even heard of it.

VB, Coopers, Cascade, Crown and Toueys were my favorites.

If you're in Melbourne, VB is the drink. If you're in Brisbane, drink Castlemaine. I say this as a real ale man. Castlemaine out there is like Guinness in Dublin...it does taste different from the c**p served over here.
