biggrin      A big thankyou to all the Welling Supporters who managed at such short notice to get down to the match last night.  It was estimated that  about fifty of you were there and with your help around  £1,400 was raised.
This match will become an annual event and money raised will go towards charities of Stuarts wife Caroline's choice.
        Thankyou, thankyou all once again.

Geoffro.... Thanks for giving us a chance to pay our respects to Stuart...
I think it would be great if this could be an annual event..
how about alternating grounds.... i think more welling fans would attend if it was at welling....
or could it be held pre season.... that way it could be on a saturday which would also encourage more people to attend....

Two good suggestions. If pre-season it would have to avoid Welling's first team playing a friendly for the best turnout.

Judie,
I think they are discussing about holding it pre season and i think it would be a very good idea to hold it alternate years at Welling.  I will suggest it to Tony.

It was nice to meet up with you all, and seeing you do your best on the pitch. We had a great side when you lads played at Welling United, and those memories will always remain with me.
All the best.

Copes the DVD, how much will it be and will it all go to the charity.

Is bob keen charging £13 and keeping all/some of the profits? Or making it a reasonable amount and passing all moneys to the kitty.

Hi all

I filmed the game and am due to produce a match DVD but am held up at the moment as I cannot identify a member of the Welling team. I need to know his identity for commentary and graphic display purposes.

Is anyone able to help? His number on the night was 18 and he came on in the second half. There is a video still of him if you click here. Any help or clues would be much appreciated.

I was asked to film the game and did so at cost to myself. Unlike many people that film football matches as a hobby, I do it for a living and consequently cannot afford to run expensive Broadcast Television equipment without charging anything at all. I do provide free highlights of games and other free services and do not expect to sell more than 12 or so copies of this match (if it ever gets produced). Of the £13 charged, £3 is donated to the charities and the remainder goes towards my expenses. I am sure you will easily be able to work out that I will make a loss on these figures and so you see it is not quite as simple as providing the whole thing for nothing. We all have to live.

Bob

I cant agree with that sorry, its a Charity game and you havent exactly gone 100 miles to do it (Didnt you used to do Ashford Games). To make £10 a DVD off the back of Stuart White no longer being around i feel is in bad taste.

Rather not get in a row over it , its just how i feel and i would feel thisabout any memorial match.

I did not choose to film this match. I was persauded to do it. I am not making £10 out of each DVD either. I travelled twice to the match and used about £10 worth of deisel. I have spent a lot of time making phone calls to establish player identities and the final DVD would take about 10 hours of my time to put together. Whilst I am doing that I am earning no money on the projects that I make my living from. This loss of eanings has to be taken into account. Would you work for nothing at your profession?

The time that I have pledged to this is quite a significant amount and adds up to more than most will have contibuted.

I recently had one of my camers serviced. The bill was £1500. This may give you some idea of the cost of running professional equipment.

To be honest, it would suit me if the game was not edited into a DVD as it will only cost me more.

The fact remains that I could have said no and the organisers would have been far less happy. They knew what was involved and still asked me to attend and were quite happy with the arrangement.

I'll tell you what JgFc. If you match my contribution, I will give all proceeds (not profits as you said) to the charities. Just do it via Gary Kirton so that it may be verified.

I did not say I do it to make money. I have demostrated above that it actually costs me money. You still don't seem to understand that. I have not detailed all of the attendant costs involved. I merely metioned deisel as you cited travelling.

As I said, I did not want to film this game. I am in a no win situation. If I had declined to do so, the organisers would have been unhappy and now that I have done so you are unhappy.

My matching offer above is still open. Do you wish to take me up on it?

How about just saying the DVDS at £10 and all money paid goes to the charity. As a professional cameraman. maybe you should move up to the league.

Non League for many is a labour of love. The fact that even on a charity game for a guy that passed away you are looking to make money / cover your time is distateful in the extreme.

Good Luck.

I have done nothing of the sort. As I said I did originally decline to film this game but was persauded to do so. The illustration below will demonstrate that I have still lost more money than you have contrbuted to the event.

If you would like a complete breakdown of my expenses here they are.

Travelling cost £10.
10 hours studio work to produce DVD £120 (this is time that I otherwise would have been earning and so must count as a cost)
Video tape £5. Tapes are £30 each and can be used 6 times.
Blank DVD media including case and laser printing £1 per DVD (assume 12 sales thus £12)
I hour designing, preparing and printing DVD sleeve £12.
None of the above takes account of the cost of running and maintaining a £20,000 television camera, electriciy, editing equipment etc
I have also not included my time in attending one abortive evening and the second filming evening. This would usually attract a filming fee.
If we therefore add up the above conservative figures we get a total cost of £159. Television cameras have hours recorded on them much like car mileometers.
They must be serviced at the required intervals. Every hour recorded on the camera lessens its value if sold on.

The return (gross) on the projected sale of 12 DVDs would be £120 after deduction of the £3 to the charities.

I have therefore made a loss of more than £39 which would have been £159 if I had done it your way.You do not seem to appreciate the difference between
someone doing this for pleasure and someone having to make a living. As demonstrated, I have not made money but merely limited my losses.

However, if you would like to pledge £159 to Gary Kirton, I will match it. I notice you have not responded to this aspect even though I have now mentioned it 3 times. This suggests my good faith. What about yours?

Sorry but I am finding this argument about costs to do with a memorial game some what distateful. Can I suggest we close this thread and any disagreement takes place in private.

I make no judgement on the rights or wrongs of the above posts.

Chelwing i and others would like to pay for the DVD but not if the money goes to someone earning from it taking money away from the charity.

Thats whats wrong with this country chelwing, someone takes the p1ss and when they are pulled up on it someone comes out hugging trees.

Im out of the discussion. Let people make their own mind up, but theres a lot of exaggeration from Mr Keen on his time and figures, which leave a sour taste.

You obviously know nothing about the industry and so I will not waste any more of my time debating the issue with you. The information is there for anyone that does know what is involved and I am sure that they would regard these figures as extremely conservative.

Anyway, if I had said no to filming it, there would be no more money contributed to the charity coffers as it would not have been filmed. At least this way there is the potential for a small additional contribution which the organisers were perfectly content with even if you are not. That, I think, was the logic applied by the organisers. I would have been perfectly content not to have filmed it, particularly given the flack dished out by you.

That is my last word on the subject. I shall not revisit to examine any reply.

PS If you would like to come down I would be more than happy to show you what is involved and my records of costs for the taxman.

Before I close this thread which has turned into a debate about commercialism and charity can someone please post the result. I think I was told Welling were on the wrong side of a 4-3 result.
