Rumours rife around here that Jamie Day will be joining us at Blundell Park for £35,000 shortly. Russell Slade is keen to sign him. Is he any good and upto League 2 standard? I have a friend at the Evening News and he says Welling are prepared to sell.
1) only free agents can move outside the transfer window and since jamie day is under contract he can't move until january 1 at the earliest, and therefore will not be joing grimsby shortly.
2) there is a lack of money in the football league and 35k for a player who is unporven at that level is a gamble; no club would take on a player playing two leagues below.
3) only last 2 weeks ago day signed a contract extention
Agree with points one and two, i reckon the club are wise after Slatter slipped away for nothing and may have pre empted an approach for Daisy,Having him on another years contract increases the price a bit. Hope its wrong though.

I agree that the Club extended Jamie's contract to avoid another Danny Slatter situation.
I'm fairly sure that Grimsby was one of the clubs rumoured to have been interested in signing Jamie at the same time as Barnet.
During the closed season Jamie knew that there was interest from league clubs and made it clear that he was happy to stay at Welling. He could have joined the Booth, Slatter, and Smith exodus by telling Ade that he wanted a move with the knowledge that Ade had said he only wanted players who wanted to play for Welling. Signing the extension indicates to me that he is happy at Welling, but as with any player if the right offer came along who knows what would happen.

I have the "unpopular" opinion that even contracted players that get offered full-time football, should be allowed to leave, if the club is compensated.
As far as I'm aware, FL clubs (non-premier) have until Friday to make signings that they can prove/justify as "emergency" and unforseen (due to injuries.)
This is a concession that FIFA made to us as only England's lower divisions got away with doing so outside of the window transfers last year.
Perhaps the deal fell through at some earlier stage, so he signed the extension?
Either way, potentially good business and a decent (I kid you not, if you don't mind the smell of fish,) place to live.
Otherwise (I believe?) non-contracted/free agents are still good?

Dunno where you get the idea that the opinion is unpopular. I'm sure that the vast majority of supporters were happy to see both Booth and Slatts move on, what caused the stir was the derisory offers made. I still believe that we had to accept bargain basement transfer fees for both to accommodate the players wish to move on for genuine reasons.
Smith was a different ballpark, he behaved like a petulant child and as such was always going to end up going, leaving a sour taste behind. The most annoying aspect is that he had departed Welling previously, failed to get starts, asked to come back and was welcomed back into the fold. During the final weeks of last season he became unhappy and I understand he made his criticisms of the club public (I've no doubt that he was being geed up by a third party.) He has/had real promise and Welling were right in looking for not only a reasonable fee but also a sell on clause. Having moved up a division again he finds himself in the same position, 1 start in 6 matches. How different it could have been if he had seen out his Welling contract and developed his potential both in terms of his chance of immediate 1st team appearances and the transfer fee.
Should a club come in for Daisy, be they at Conference or League level and Daisy wanted to go, I've no doubt that Ade/the Club would not stand in his way and supporters would wish him well. There must however be a realistic fee (including a sell on clause.)
Nobody wants to see our quality players departing but I'm sure Ade, the Club and supporters are realistic enough to wish them all the best at their new club. The only ill feeling which could arise is if they play at silly bu****s like Smith did.
