With Charlton playing on Friday night and having 25,000 at the Valley last week, the club should have offered the Weston game for a discount - that would have really bumped up the gate. I didn't see any posters around the ground either saying 'watch the rugby on the big screen in the bar after the match'. The club could have had a drinks promotion as well maybe? Rugby was on BBC1 with a 5pm ko - perfect for after our match.
We have no Press Officer do we? Or Media Rep. Thats one thing that could be done... getting the news to local rags, radio etc etc.
Both are good ideas and gimmes really that when your big local league club arent playing HOME OR AWAY you offer a deal and publicise a match at PVR. The bar promotion or advertising the egg chasing another good idea.
If you didnt pull in a few hundred quid from your points Gary then i would be surprised. The thing is the Football League Season Ticket promo for Non league Day i think we announced 2 days before the game and we got 80 people in?? So the club may see it as not worth it. Promote it well in advance and then realise that our gates are one of the few gates this year to be better than last year. Thats without any marketing at all!! So people clearly do want the club to do well... you just have to entice a few more in and use your noddle. One day we might do it. Its not rocket science and we dont seem to be doing anything to try and raise gates and bring people in. We being the club not the fans.
I know there is only so many hours in the day but using a PC, Email , Phone you should be able to get news out and come up with some schemes and for every opportunity you can think of.
